When watching the episodes on the DVD's, I've noticed that the sound level is not consistent. It gets louder, then gets softer and the flaw is a bit on the annoying side. I was wondering if anyone else has picked up on this.

The sound quality on mine has been very good. I haven't noticed any differences yet.

My Season 1 has been good, but there are sometimes where the sounds gets quite.

Ya know...I thought it was my hearing. Ive noticed that the sound is a little louder on the credits but not during any of the content of the episodes themselves.

Is that what other people have found? If someone could post a specific instance, I could check things out on my set too.

The sound level wavers during the individual episodes. For example, yesterday I was watching the 5th season episode- AND ONLY TWO NINETY NINE. During the scene when Max and the Chief are talking in the Chief's office, the sound level of the conversation gets louder for a few seconds, then gets softer again. This happens a couple times. Another thing I noticed with the sound in the episodes- Whenever something explodes or a gun goes off, it sounds abnormally loud. My guess is that they modified the sound track for the DVD's, perhaps they converted it from mono to stereo. If that's what they did, it would have been better to leave the sound the way it originally was.

You may well be right. Something similar happens in the Nanny dvd's. When I play them through my sound system they're a little better.

Maybe that is why I haven't really noticed anything..because I watch them on a surround sound system. I don't know though, maybe they beefed up the sound effects.

Funny story (well for me anyway). When I first got my TV (a 65" Toshiba), there was this commercial on where this dog was running back and forth. Well my pup (pictured left) wasn't used to the big TV or the remixed sound yet. She stared intensely at the screen, following the dog back and forth. Well the dog on the tv takes off for the background and my dog goes to chase her....WHAM!! right into the TV. She just stepped back and looked a little confused and then came and sat next to me.

Needless to say, that never happened again...wish I could get over embarassment that quickly.

i also havent noticed anything with the sound, you sure all you wires are plugged in tightly?

I'm afraid the sound (on "School Days" in particular) does vary quite a lot on my set whether through the stereo or not. But together with the great video quality it's easily bearable.

Yep, the sound level on the DVD episodes is not consistent. A bit of an annoyance, but not a major problem. One thing I wish they would have done on the DVD's is put the episodes in order by production number instead of air date. For basically the first halves of seasons one and two, the episodes were often not originally aired by production number order. Time-Life put the episodes in air date order on the DVD's, and on some disks the episodes are not presented in the proper order.

Noticed that myself. A couple of Get Smart books I've got have them in a different order again. Production order would have been better for those of us watching the episodes from start to end.

You could definitely tell that some episodes were filmed before others. For instance, in episode 61 from season 3, Viva Smart, 99's hair is long like it is at the beginning of season 4. In the episodes after that one, it's back to short. I know that's kind of a strange observation, but the length of 99's hair was how I could tell they were out of order lol. ;)

Viva Smart was actually the first episode produced for season three. Barbara Feldon did let her hair grow out as the series progressed. By the last season, the length of her hair was well past the shoulders.

I, too, have noticed the sound fluctuations. Interesting.

I actually noticed the sound shift from softer to louder in the episode "Closely Watched Plans" where the Chief is pointing out each of the suspects in the airport. It starts to get louder at this point.
