I have this movie on a vhs tape and to this day when I watch it; I feel so bad for her and what she went through. She was excellent in this movie.

Actually, I forgot I still had this movie... but yeah I've seen it. The first time I saw it I was actually forbidden to watch it at like 10 or 11 years old LOL of course I did anyway and have kept it ever since. I love it, even despite what happened in it.

Though something did disturb me... I notice the heavy kissage Nancy & Dale were doing in the first 'sex scene' and uh... is that because they were dating? I read somewhere on here that they were during shooting (which is also kinda weird since his char essentially beats hers to a pulp...) and since I assumed most actors/actresses only stage-kissed... I wasn't sure. All I gotta say is, waaaay too much tongue! *shudder* LOL. Anyone else agree?

This movie means alot to me. First of all, I live very near to Torrington (Connecticut) and this was HUGE news at the time. My husband used to be similar to Buck Thurman (my husband has since changed...well, at least most of the time). Anyway, Nancy brought to life a situation that all of us in Connecticut were very emotionally invested in. And whoever said Tracey was a wimp was dead-wrong. If you are used to abuse as I was, abuse from a mate doesn't seem so wrong. I don't know. All I know is Nancy brought to life the woman who I have spoken to directly, more than once. Nancy's portrayal of this woman was impeccable. If you knew Tracey Thurman, you knew Nancy McKeon was dead-on in her acting. I have moved many times in the last several years (mostly moving away from my husband, filing divorce charges, dropping divorce charges, etc.). I lost many of my VCR tapes. I found The Tracey Thurman Story today and the audio is so weak I can't watch it. But I can watch and hear enough to tell you what NM meant to our state. Nancy endured endless interviews by our CT journalists and she became a personal friend to Tracey Thurman and an advocate for our state. The Tracey Thurman law has liberated Connecticut. Nancy McKeon's performance helped postpone Buck Thurman's release from prison (if you think I am being overly theatrical, I will send you the court tapes released by CT television). NM brought a face to "our" Tracey Thurman. I've spoken to TT, and I lived her life through NM (as well as drawing from my own life). What I am trying to say is watch this movie. We in CT were haunted for years by Buck Thurman (believe me, it was a MAJOR issue in CT), and NM helped settle the score just a bit. I guess I'm saying, watch the movie if you can. NM is brilliant (I don't understand why she never made it in "Hollywood". Her portrayal of this woman was flawless). Nancy McKeon means alot to most of us in CT, especially to us, the women who, prior to The Tracey Thurman Law, were not protected by the police. NM continues to be visible in our news stations. All of us in CT admire her. I guess I just wanted to say that we in CT view NM as more than just an actress. She has gone above and beyond to support our new laws concerning domestic viloence. She is admired and widely regarded as a very special woman by all of us in CT.
_________________________________________________________________

I just watched it again and this movie still gets to me; I feel so bad for her and everything. Nobody should have to go through such an ordeal like that.
Does anybody know if to this day; if (Buck) has been released and if so; what's he doing? Has he tried to contact (Tracey)? How's she doing?
I would greatly appreciate any feedback whatsoever; whether good or bad.

Thank You In Advance!!

I've sometimes caught it, surprisingly enough, on TBS and TNT very early in the morning; keep a watch out for that too!

But I do remember one where Nancy played this girl who was a schizophrenic and had a breakdown with a computer and all through the living room. I forgot what that movie was called, but she was really good in that movie.

Strange Voices with Valerie Harper. I've never seen that one.

On Tracey Thurman, I haven't seen this film in years nor do I know the history of Nancy dating Dale Midkiff--but I would hazard to guess based on the heavy subject matter and the weight of what both needed to portray in this film that the two wouldn't have dated while filming.

Now when filming was over, that is another story. So I think whatever dating might have gone on was after the fact.

THIS IS ONE OF THOSE MOVIES YOU ONLY HAVE TO SEE ONCE. BUT, I HAVE SEEN THIS A FEW TIMES. EACH TIME CRINGING, CRYING AND GETTING ANGRY!

THURMAN LAW WAS INACTED BECAUSE OF THIS VERY COURAGEOUS, BEAUTIFUL WOMAN. THE ATTORNEY WHO ALSO FOUGHT FOR HER SHOULD NOT BE FORGOTTEN FOR HIS ROLE IN ALL OF THIS, TOO.

THE LAST TIME I WATCHED IT, WAS WHILE I WAS ON VACATION IN ORLANDO, WITH MY BEST FRIEND. WE WERE BOTH FULL OF A RANGE OF EMOTIONS THROUGHOUT THE MOVIE. I JUST HAPPENED TO COME ACROSS THE MOVIE AND WE WATCHED IT. IT'S JUST AS POWERFUL AS THE FIRST TIME I SAW IT.

I MADE SURE WHEN I GOT BACK, THAT I WOULD DO RESEARCH TO FIND OUT WHAT HAS HAPPENED SINCE THEN. I WAS FEVERISHLY TRYING TO FIND A PIC OF THIS EXTRAORDINARY WOMAN, AND FINALLY DID. I PRINTED THE PIC AND ARTICLE, AND HUNG IT UP NEAR MY COMPUTER, AS A CONSTANT REMINDER. YOU CAN SEE HER SCAR IN THE PIC. FURTHER RESEARCH SHOWS THAT SHE APPEARS TO BE DOING WELL, DESPITE ALL THE TRAUMA IN HER LIFE.

CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT CREEP GOT OUT!!! YOU KNOW WHO I MEAN. IT'S NOT EVEN WORTH MY FINGERS DANCING ON THE KEYBOARD TO PRINT HIS NAME:mad: NOT ONLY DID HE GET OUT, BUT IS STILL VIOLENT. I GUESS I WOULDN'T EXPECT ANY LESS. BUT I ALSO VERY STRONGLY BLAME THIS CRAPPY JUDICIAL SYSTEM. DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED PEOPLE!! SOME IDIOT WOMAN, I GUESS THE SAME KIND THAT FALLS IN LOVE WITH MURDERERS LIKE SCOTT PETERSON, MUST'VE THOUGHT HE WAS KING OF THE WORLD, AND DATED HIM. AND OF COURSE, SHE GOT THE SNOT BEAT OUT OF HER. DUH!

UNFORTUNATELY I ALSO READ THEIR SON, WHO HAD TO WITNESS HIS FATHER'S BRUTALITY WAS ALSO INCARCERATED FOR BEATING UP HIS GIRLFRIEND. THAT'S REALLY SAD TO ME. HOW HE COULD SEE WHAT HIS FATHER DID TO HIS MOTHER, AND APPEARS TO BE FOLLWING THAT PATH OF RAGE.

DID YOU KNOW THAT NANCY TURNED DOWN THE ROLE OF TRACY THURMAN THREE TIMES BEFORE ACCEPTING IT? SHE SAID IT WAS BECAUSE SHE DIDN'T FEEL SHE COULD GIVE JUSTICE TO TRACY'S ROLE. SHE WAS FINALLY CONVINCED TO DO THE ROLE BY TRACY HERSELF. IF I REMEMBER CORRECTLY, SHE DID THE MOVIE BEFORE "HIS" PAROLE REVIEW, IN THE HOPES OF KEEPING HIM WHERE HE BELONGS. NOW IF THAT DOESN'T SHOW NANCY'S HUMILITY I'M NOT SURE WHAT WILL, AS WELL AS HER BRAVERLY, IF YOU REALLY THINK ABOUT IT.

I'M SURE IT WAS VERY EMOTIONAL, ESPECIALLY SINCE IT WAS A TRUE STORY, AND SHE HAD MET IN PERSON WITH TRACY HERSELF. I BET THERE WERE MANY TRUE TEARS BETWEEN THE TWO OF THEM WHILE FILMING.

AND AS I SIDE NOTE: STRANGE VOICES WAS FILMED WHILE NANCY WAS DOING FACTS. SHE BROKE A BONE (HER LEG, I THINK) DURING THAT FILM. THE CAST YOU SEE HER IN ON SOME OF THE FACTS EP'S, INCLUDING THE ONE..OH, THE TITLE ESCAPES ME..WHERE BLAIR IS ACCUSED OF HAVING THE AFFAIR WITH HER PROFESSOR, IS REAL. SHE IS ON CRUTCHES, AND HER HOBBLES:lol: ARE IN FACT REAL.

TO ME, HAD NANCY GONE THE HOLLYWOOD MOVIE ROUTE, I THINK SHE WOULD HAVE HAD AT LEAST ONE NOMINATION, IF NOT A GOLDEN STATUETTE SITTING SOMEWHERE AT HOME. I BASE THIS ON HER ROLE IN FACTS AND ON THE TRACEY THURMAN STORY ALONE. I NEED NOT SEE ANYMORE. BUT, WHY NOT THROW IN THE DIVISION FOR GOOD MEASURE TOO;)

I'M GOING TO HUNT AROUND THE I-NET TO SEE IF I CAN GET THE LINK FOR YOU GUYS TO SEE TRACY'S PIC.

I've seen both movies, "Tracy Thurman" and "Strange Voices". But due to the "intensity" of both roles (TT more than the other), it's not something I could watch over and over again...

I think I actually remember seeing this movie when it was on TV. I was probably 8 or 9 and remember recognizing Nancy as the girl on that show (Jo on The Facts of Life). My parents were watching it and I watched for a bit and was really freaked out. I remember the violent parts as quite graphic. I'm not sure if it was because I was so young that it seemed so graphic or because it really was. I think it would be difficult for me to watch even now since domestic violence always disturbed me.

These are the images that I remember from the movie:

- Nancy's character lying on the ground at one point.
- Husband chasing after her.
- A little boy sitting in a restaurant and his father pouring him milk.
- Violence.
- Husband's mustache.

I ALREADY DO:kiss:

THANKU KELL, AS WELL AS 80'S GUY. I DON'T KNOW HOW I MISSED IT! I SEARCHED FOR OVER AN HOUR FOR PICS. IT'S THE SAME SITE WHERE I POSTED MY LINK ABOUT HER SON. I THINK THAT WAS THE SAME PIC I HAD PRINTED OUT AND HAD ON MY WALL. THE SCAR SEEMED MORE VIVID THOUGH.

I'M GLAD WE CAN SHARE THESE THINGS NOW. WE MUST NEVER FORGET WHAT HAPPENED TO TRACY, AND JUST REMEMBER, THERE ARE WOMEN WORLDWIDE WHO ARE RAPED, BEATEN, TORTURED, MISUSED AND FORGOTTEN ABOUT. AT LEAST WE HAVE SOME TYPE OF COURT SYSTEM. WHICH YES, SEEMS TO BE FOR THE RIGHTS OF THE PERPETRATOR MORE TIMES THAN NOT, BUT IN MANY PLACES IN INDIA AND AFRICA, AS WELL AS OTHERS, MANY WOMEN ARE TREATED LIKE USED TOILET PAPER. AND I'M NOT SAYING THAT FOR A LAUGH. THAT IS THE TRUTH. THEY ARE TREATED LIKE THEY ARE NOTHING. TOSSED AWAY LIKE TRASH, AND IN MANY CASES BY THEIR FAMILIES, BECAUSE EVEN THOUGH THE GIRLS, YES GIRLS ARE RAPED, THE FAMILIES ARE ASHAMED OF THEM, AND THEY ARE ABANDONED. THEY HAVE LITTLE OR NO VOICE AT ALL. BUT THAT IS SLOWLY CHANGING:nod:

ANYONE SEE OPRAH'S SEGMENTS? EVER DO ANY RESEARCH? NOW MANY PEOPLE MAY NOT THINK MUCH OF ANGELINA JOLIE, BUT I READ HER BOOK ABOUT HER MISSIONS AS A GOODWILL AMBASSADOR A FEW YEARS BACK. IT MOVED ME. SO MUCH SO THAT IF I CAN GET MY LIFE IN ORDER TO DO SO, WITHIN THE NEXT 5 YEARS, I WOULD LIKE TO WORK EITHER IN AFRICA, INDIA, CAMBODIA OR SUDAN, MAINLY TO HELP EITHER REFUGEES OR TO ASSIST WOMEN AND GIRLS IN WHATEVER IS THE BEST WAY TO DO SO, ACCORDING TO MY RESEARCH AND THE EXPERTS. MY FRIENDS THINK I'M CRAZY. A BLONDE WHITE GIRL GOING TO THESE PLACES, BUT I DON'T CARE. NEVER WAS ONE TO BE AFRAID-MUCH, OR AT LEAST SHOW IT WHEN I WAS. THAT'S THE JO IN JODI.

I KNOW. ANOTHER RANT OFF THE SUBJECT. SORRY. THIS SUBJECT MATTER IS VERY SENSITIVE TO ME, AND HOPEFULLY TO EVERY OTHER WOMAN, AS WELL AS MEN. SO PLEASE, DON'T SEND ME MAIL STATING I VEAR OFF THE SUBJECT. THAT'S PART OF JO jr, DONT'CHA KNOW;)

I'M NOW GOING TO TRY TO FIND AN ARTICLE ON TRACY'S LOW LIFE EX SO YOU CAN GET EVEN MORE ENRAGED:mad:

*ADDED* OK, HERE IS SOME MORE INFO I FOUND, AND PROBABLY THE ARTICLE I WAS REFERRING TO EARLIER.

I'm sorry about my posts being deleted. I don't think it will be happening again. I mentioned some very personal things in this post and it was a mistake. The person got very upset and erased all of my posts.

I shouldn't have even brought up the subject. It's just very hard because I can relate to so much of it (both as a teenager, and then unfortunately, as an adult as well). And what makes it doubly hard is that I lived very close to where this happened in Connecticut. I still do. Every time I have the misfortune of passing by the Torrington police department, my stomach turns. I know some of the lawyers involved in Tracey's case and I can tell you that Tracey's ordeal was much, much worse than what was revealed in the movie. Buck Thurman is a repulsive human being and I told him that to his face (I wanted to spit in his face too like he used to do to Tracey, but I held myself back). I know this doesn't sound very Christian of me, but I really wish he had been killed in prison. I went to the same counseling center at the same time as Tracey (in the early 1980's). To be honest, it didn't do much to help either one of us. I was a teenager then, but because of our similar circumstances, our paths have crossed many times since then. I care for her very deeply. Tracey's son is in a rehab center in the town I used to live in. It is on the same street as the battered women's shelter and the domestic violence/rape counseling center. I know the administrators who oversee all of these places and they're really great women. I'm glad that her son's in a good place. Tracey is a very special and very brave woman who has changed the law in CT drastically. Before the Thurman trial, things were very, very different here. It was not a great place for women to be.

Anyway, I changed my password, so I think the problem with the deletions is solved.

Nancy McKeon also came to mean a great deal to us in Connecticut. She became close to Tracey and she donated time, money and resources into ensuring that CT law enforcement abide by the Thurman Law. She appeared many times on our local news stations to talk about these issues and to advocate equal protecton under the law. I respect and admire NM very much.

I seen this movie a few years ago and cry everytime I see it. Some parts I can barely watch. Nancy did a great job in this movie and she is one awesome person! Tracey is such a brave lady. I couldn't imangine what she went through on a daily basis with that monster. When I seen the movie I was praying her little boy wouldn't turn out like his father one day its so said to see he is following in his dads footsteps. I pray Tracey has a better life today and is safe and happy& healthy.

Dan Rather did an interview with Tracey Thurman in 1988 on 48 hours to ask Tracey how she felt of her ex-husband possible release from jail in 1990. My mamaw has this on tape. I wish I could find it. I remember them showing a picture of Buck: wow he is one scary and ugly looking man. There is also a book called Getting Away with Murder: Weapons for the War Against Dometic Violence which in the first chapter talks about Tracey and Charles.

In my Social Policy class I am doing a paper and presentation on domestic violent laws and the majority of my paper is about Tracey Thurman and how she had a major part in changing the laws of domestic violence. She is one corageous woman.
