I received SNL for a Xmas Present and have been watching episodes in between my Mash episodes...

I noticed on one of the episodes that Loudon Wainwright III (aka Captain Spaulding) was a musical guest. He sang the song that was in the episode "There's Nothing Like A Nurse" -- the one where Hawkeye and Trapper were singing with him at the end of the episode walking through the camp!

That was a nice surprise!

The SNL episode was hosted by: Robert Klein - in Season 1. He performs 2 songs, the one from Mash (don't know the title of it), and another song I didn't recognize. ABBA was also in the episode lip synching "Waterloo".

The MASH episode the song is featured in was "There's Nothing Like a Nurse". I believe he performed the song twice during the episode. First with Hawkeye & Trapper -- then at the end walking with them through the compound.

Holy cow! That's super cool 'cause I absolutely love ABBA, too!

The song is called "Unrequitted to the Nth Degree".

Lyrics:

When I die, and it won't be long
Hey, you're gonna be sorry that you treated me wrong
Yeah, you're gonna be sorry that you treated me bad
Yes, and if there's an afterlife, I'll gloat and I'll be glad.

You know it might be a plane crash or some sort of OD
Hey, there's gonna be a photograph with my obituary
You're gonna see it and you'll cry a lot, you're gonna wanna wear black
Hey, I'll be dead, but you can bet your life I'm gonna get you back.

I'm tired of being left up on your shelf
I might not wait around, I might kill myself
Not only would you miss me, but you'd feel guilty, too
Oh, I'd be dead, but it'd be too late, the joke would be on you!

Ha ha ha ha!
Ho ho ho ho!
Chuckle chuckle chuckle chuckle!
Snicker snicker snicker snicker!
Guffaw guffaw guffaw guffaw!
Yuk yuk yuk yuk!
Chortle chortle chortle chortle chortle chortle chortle chortle.

So you better take warning, and start treating me good
Start doing the things that I think you should
And you'd better not.. pout, you'd better not cry
Hey, the grim reaper is a-coming to town and I just might die!"

Nice! Thanks for the lyrics! Kinda grim song there! But, then again, so are all the lyrics to Suicide is Painless!

Well, couldn't find lyrics, but I did find that it's also sometimes called "North Korean Blues."

Here's also Loudon Wainwright III's official website:

Lyrics for "North Korean Blues":
Oh Tokyo,
They got some saki, and sashimi, and some clean sheets,
Oh, kimono, oh, kimono,
Tokyo's the town that I love the best,
East may be East, and West may be West,
Forget about between, it'll drive you insane,
And teach you things you never knew before.
