Roseanne's Comments on the Final Episode

The following comment comes directly from Roseanne Barr herself. On December 23, 2006, she posted this on the message board of her website:

"Thanks to Dan Kelly, I was able to revisit the last episode of my show, where Roseanne reveals that writing is what she used to survive depressing times. The "Roseanne" sitcom was based on my real life, I was suicidal and broken when I gathered all that was left of myself and wrote five minutes of jokes, which became an act, and ultimately the Roseanne show. As we leave our protagonist in her living room, completion of her book just managed, she will have a quiet moment alone to think, before she throws the windows and the doors open and steps out into the world to make feminist television history, much as I did."

Funny, just like Dan's boat and his dream of finishing it and sailing it, we only saw one episode reference Roseanne's dream abt writing. We never saw her character resort to writing to help deal with her depression. She did resort to binge eating after finding out Dan cheated, but never did we see her write.

It seems the later Roseanne (character) was not happy, seemed so cynical and annoying at times.

It is nice to know that it was Roseanne's real-life drama that made her write things down that eventually brought to us the show ROSEANNE, one of thee best sitcoms ever. It's right up there with I LOVE LUCY, in my opinion. I am not happy that it was depression and suicide thoughts that drove her to write, but she did something positive with it and gave us a great show.
