J.K. Rowling has given "Harry Potter" fans an early Christmas present: the title to her seventh and final book in the series.

The title "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" was revealed on the author's website jkrowling.com recently. Dedicated fans have to maneuver through the site to have the name appear. True fans will figure it out for themselves, but others can take the cheats offered at the end of this story.

On Thursday, the author had written in her online diary about her progress.

"I'm now writing scenes that have been planned in some cases, for a dozen years or even more," she reports. "I don't think anyone who has not been in a similar situation can possibly know how this feels: I am alternately elated and overwrought. I both want, and don't want, to finish this book (don't worry, I will)."

She also mentions that although she hadn't before, she now has dreamed of being in the fantasy world she created.

"A few nights ago ... I had an epic dream in which I was, simultaneously, Harry and the narrator," the posting reads. "I was searching for a Horcrux in a gigantic, crowded hall, which bore no resemblance to the Great Hall as I imagine it. As the narrator I knew perfectly well that the Horcrux was jammed in a hidden nook in the fireplace, while as Harry I was searching for it in all kinds of other places, while trying to make the people around me say lines I had pre-arranged for them."

Just a reminder, a Horcrux is a receptacle in which a Dark wizard has hidden a fragment of his soul for the purposes of attaining immortality. Apparently the evil Lord Voldemort created seven fragments, only a few for which the Horcruxes have been identified. To make things more interesting, a Horcrux need not be inanimate. Thus, there may be someone walking around with a bit of Voldemort in him/her.

"Deathly Hollows" is the highly anticipated conclusion to the best-selling fantasy series revolving around the titular boy wizard and his battles with the not entirely dead Lord Voldemort and his dark minions. Although there's been no hint about the plot, Rowling did reveal that two characters are slated to die.

The fifth installment, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," is making its way to the big screen in July. The film stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson reprising their roles as Harry and his pals.

Harry Potter is SO overrated.

While I don't think it's overrated, I seemed to enjoy it more when I was younger than I do now. Although, I've been re-reading the books and have enjoyed them, so they're still able to work their magic on me. I think there's a wonderful freshness about the first one.

Anyway...I'm wondering what will happen. I really hope that Snape turns out to be on the good side after all, and I'm hoping that Percy's estrangement from his family will be resolved. I'm also hoping to see more of Neville and Luna as, along with Cedric and Ron, they're my favourite characters in the series.

J. K. Rowling has hinted that Harry might die.

I think it's pretty much a given that Ron and Hermione are headed for romance.

I just wonder with how slow they are putting out the movies how soon they will need to recast. The Kids in her stories certainly do not age as fast as the actors

Yes, I meant Cedric Diggory. Why do you think it's funny that he died? It was awfully tragic.

Cedric was such a nice person; that's why I like him. And Hufflepuff is my favourite of the Houses. A lot of people, including Gryffindors, seem to look down on Hufflepuff, but I think it's an excellent house. They're loyal, just, hard-working, patient, fair...all great qualities.

Well I haven't read any of the HP books so far. I thought about maybe going through them all at some point, but I doubt it will happen. When does this book come out?

it's funny that you wanted to see more of a character who is no longer alive! unless he's coming back as a ghost...

This news made my day yesterday! I'm a HUGE HP fan. I really, really hope Harry doesn't die. And I admit this title doesn't exctly bode well for him, but I really think it's just a place he'll have to go on his search for the Horcruxes. I just hope it's not too long before we know when it's coming.

Oh, I didn't mean I wanted to see more of him. I know there's no chance of that happening. I just meant he's one of my favourite characters, because he's such a kind person.

Well, the seventh book is going to be the last Harry Potter book, so if J. K. Rowling wanted to kill his character off at the end, she'd be able to, and it wouldn't affect anything, because the series has come to an end. They'd still be able to make the movies, because they haven't gotten around to even the sixth one yet, and Harry wouldn't be dead until near the end of the seventh one.

So it is possible for Harry to die. I don't know whether he will or not, but JKR has hinted that he might die.
