View Full Version : Something I never understood from "The Not-So-Ugly Duckling"
OKCRay 12-19-2006, 06:27 AM One thing has always puzzled me about this episode. Jan and Clark Tyson are in the family room doing some sort of geography assignment, and Jan says something about her map of the United States looking funny. Clark tells her it's because she forgot to include Baja California. Since Baja California is in MEXICO and not the United States, why would that cause Jan's map to look weird?

Hey OkCray,
Wow! keen eye for detail! Never noticed that before. Sounds like a slip up by the writers. It might have been a little something else for Robert Reed to get pissed about! LOL!
OR, maybe they deliberately mixed up the location so that us viewers would always have ambigious beliefs as to where The Brady's lived. Reasearch has shown that the exterior HOUSE is in California. But this could have possibly just added a little bit of mystery as to exactly where The Bunch was supposed to live. If you notice in "Locket Lost, Locket Found.", the Brady's were located in Clinton Way, City. In real life, there is no such location (with the comma preceding the word "city." as if it were a state.) Not sure if there is a Clinton Way, California. We do know that the grade-school was Clinton Avenue Elementary.
Another Brady Mystery!

OKCray, good catch. Seems to me if she was making a map of the U.S. and the U.S. only, then Baja shouldn't be there. I can see if she was making a map of the U.S., Mexico and Canada. Like I said, good catch!

As long as we are talking about "The Not So Ugly Duckling" you will notice on TV Land's print that they cut out the Brady's phone number, (Same with "Mail Order Hero".) I am not sure if syndication still leaves it in or not. But I do know the reason why TV Land did, was that at the time of original airing (and presumably for several years afterword) the number given out was a REAL L.A phone number! People were prank-calling the number and asking for Brady family members. Naturally the owners, must of told them to "f**K o**"" because for years, those phone numbers have been cut by TV Land. If you guys know if they are still in the syndicated prints, please reply to this post. Our local syndicate started doing The Brady Bunch and they are jumping around with episodes, so if I see TNSUD, I'll let you guys know.

Ireneparalegal 12-19-2006, 09:45 PM Wasn't the number that was said began with "555"? If so, then that could not be a real number.

I think that for TNSUD, the prefix for the first three numbers were different. You might be thinking of "Mail Order Hero.", which I THINK has the phone number edited out. Maybe it doesn't if it does start with "555". But I do know that TV Land does cut out the phone number in NSUD and I think syndicate does as well. The only place you can hear that number restored AFAIK is on the DVD.

The Brady number was changed to a "555" number for "Mail-Order Hero", but it was 762-0799 for TNSUD. TV Land not only drops out some of the audio there, it also changes a few of the digits in the closed-captioning to underscores to give the same effect for those paying attention to closed-captioning.

Alice also refers to Greg as the "Cassanova of Clinton Avenue" in one episode.

It's in that episode abt Jan needing glasses. Greg is dressed up and going out the door when Alice stops him asking him where he was going.
