View Full Version : Anyone remember the Charmings?
TheMirror 09-09-2000, 08:35 PM Hi, I am new to the forum!
Anyway, my favorite sitcom and show for that matter of all time is "The Charmings". Anyone out there remember it or is still a fan?
It was about Snow White (Caitlin OHeaney / Carol Huston), prince Charming (Christopher Rich), and their two kids (Brandon Call, Garette Raltiff). Snow's stepmother, Lillian (Judy Parfitt), puts them asleep for 1,000 years and they wake up in the 20th century. Also starred the very funny Paul Winfield as the Magic Mirror.
It ran on ABC from the spring of 1987 to 1988 (21 episodes). Basically was killed off when ABC moved it against the Cosby Show.
Marvin85 09-11-2000, 10:09 AM Oh YES!!!! I remember this great underated show!!! I used to have all of them recorded on tape; on Beta yet. When I transfered all my old Beta tapes to VHS I accidentally threw the tapes away (insert kicking sound effect here!) I really loved Judy Parfitt (?) as the witch. If you have any episodes on tape in good condition please email me I have stuff to trade for. I think my fav episode is the one from the second season wheee Lilian accidentally turned the boys into stone. The Shakespere scene between her and the mirror was so funny.
TheMirror 09-11-2000, 03:34 PM Yes!! that was a great episode. It was the second season opener and was titled "Lillian Loses The Kids".
gv416 03-28-2004, 04:52 PM I liked the Charmings, especially Judy Parfitt and Paul Winfield, who just died recently (RIP). My only disappointment is that it eventually became too much like Bewitched, with the witch casting a different spell over Prince Charming each week. I loved it when he was hunting a job, and when asked about his skills he listed one as "beheading trolls". God that was funny.

Starsky's Chick 12-19-2004, 02:29 AM The Charmings was the biggest piece of crap I ever saw in my life.
Mr. Television 12-19-2004, 02:45 AM The Charmings was one of the best shows of all time. Its to bad ABC killed it by putting it in bad timeslots.

Are you out of your Vaulkin mind? ABC was smart to have killed it.

I loved the concept of this show. Taking fairytale characters and putting them into modern times. It was really cute :) Paul Winfield was great as the mirror. I liked Lillian as well.
Too bad it didn't have a decent time slot.

It's called an opinion, and he's allowed to have one that is different than yours ;)

Well, Starsky doesn't like it and neither do I. By the way, I know what an opinion is. ;)

What's your problem? This was a sweet television show, there's nothing wrong with liking it.

It's Vulcan.
If you're going to quote Star Trek, get it right.

Oh really. It seems like you and Starsky are going to every single board and dissing that show. Some fans might take that personally.
Give me a break, Atlanta Hawk
You insulted me at the WKRP board.
And I'm not going to every single board and dissing shows.

Yes really. No I'm not going to every single board and dissing a show. If you would look at my other posts you would see that. I don't mean to insult anyone.

I'll have to remember that from now on. Star Trek isn't a show I like very much. :( Thank you for clearing that up. ;)

I'm not no Atlanta Hawk, I don't even follow the NBA.
And I didn't say nothing until your chick said I was out of my vulkin mind. I thought you would enjoy the same type of medicine.
Yea right.
I see, maybe you follow the WNBA then. ;)
If you have a problem with her, don't go after me, take it up with her.

I'm done talking with you two tonight. Out of respect for the great show The Charmings I shall leave. You've already ruined this thread enough.
 I don't know what's funnier, your name, the fact that you havent even spoken to her tonight, or that you called The Charmings a great show.
Brian Damage 12-31-2004, 01:39 AM nevermind

Well I'm pretty sure TJ has rule about if you don't like a show then don't go to that board and bash it.
Like I said before it's his opinion he can like whatever shows he wants, use the ignore button if you don't like it
I'm starting to think you and Starsky's chick are one and the same.

dandelion wine 01-02-2005, 11:05 PM Sorry, we were just clowning around. We didn't mean to offend anyone. :(

I haven't looked later in this thread, so don't know if anyone else answered this. It was Holland Taylor, wasn't it, from Bosom Buddies? Or am I wrong.
And the same is true of me. I recorded all onto Beta tape, and the moving men stole them! Of all things! BETA tapes!
:sarah: :2mad :sarah:
So I don't have them either! I want a DVD collection, though.
EmpressDR 12-24-2006, 11:57 PM Yes, OK, it was Judy Parfitt, who was quite like Holland Taylor, though!
I was upset with whomever had the boneheaded notion to change the show, putting the characters into "regular clothes" and Snow speaking in a "regular voice" instead of that hilarious high-pitched one. What was the point of the show, if everyone was going to be "normal" except for the stepmother?
It's like what was the point of updating Wonder Woman. It lost its charm, just like the Charmings lost its charm.
:crying:
:2mad:
And it's a shame that posters seemed to have been scared away by the flamers.
Starsky's Chick and Starsky?
Stay away.
:goaway: :eatarrow:
Scoobiedoo30 02-01-2007, 04:23 PM I dont remember seeing this show on TV
catlover79 08-06-2010, 12:49 AM I remember watching that show when I was a little kid. It was a funny spoof of the classic fairy tale. Paul Winfield stole the show as The Mirror.
DJM77 11-20-2010, 01:03 PM I remember hearing about the show when it was on but I don't think I ever watched it.
EmpressDR- I preferred Caitlin O'Heaney in the role- she had that doe-eyed, innocence that Snow needed. Since they were in modern times, I can see why they would need to wear regular clothes, whatnot- but that first episode is my favorite of the Snow looks, as it was not far off of what we've come to know of Snow White (the Disney version, anyhow).

Does anyone know the story about why they recast (https://web.archive.org/web/20061031142638/http://www.jumptheshark.com/c/charmings.htm) Snow White?
Caitlin discussed her dismissal from the show in this book:

The Charmings is included in the section "Shows Invited Back For a Truncated or Vastly Different Second Season." The preview pages include The Charmings section.
