Does anyone know what the title of the opening theme for The Match Game (1962-1969) is? I know it was a hit and was played on the radio. It is a cool instrumental song but the title escapes me at the moment. It was very different from the theme used for the 1970's run of Match Game.
Thanks,
Chad

The original Match Game theme was "A Swingin' Safari" by Bert Kaempfert. That instumental was dropped later in the show's run and replaced by another theme from Score Productions, who composed many of the Goodson-Todman game show themes.

I'd always thought the theme song was called AFRIKKAN BEAT.
Maybe it went under both titles???

The theme was dropped til at least 1968. The pilot version forThe Match Game was a cover version of the Bert Kaempfert instrumental version done by bandleader Billy Vaughn used on the very first episode when The Match Game hit the air December 31, 1962.
To hear A Swingin' Safari in its entirety, go to the Wise Old Uncle Bert page here (http://www.wise-old-uncle-bert.com/music.html) and A Swingin' Safari is the first song on the page.
Make sure you have mp3 capabilities or if you want to save the file, right click on your mouse and "Save Target As" if you use Internet Explorer.
Hope that helps! :)
By the way, if you received the Match Game DVD as a Christmas gift, the pilot for The Match Game (12/31/1962) is included in the package.
