View Full Version : Girl Kidnapped From Phone Booth - Angela Hammond
mikem7715 12-10-2006, 10:56 PM Anyone remember this one? She was talkin to boyfriend on a payphone at night, when a guy kidnapped her ?He was driving an old pickup with a mural in the back window of a fish jumping out of water.Anyone have any info. or updates,if so please post em here.It always surprised me that someone somewhere didnt have a friend or coworker or neighbor that had an old green pickup with a fish in back window.Someone somewhere HAD to know this guy,why wasnt a tip given to police?Did ploice drop the ball, and not get a description of the truck out to the public?
GoldenGirlsFan92 12-10-2006, 11:10 PM They did give a description of the car & the guy.As far as I know the case was never solved. I remember seeing this episode about 3 years ago, and I would love to see it again. Is it on any of the DVD Sets?
800TH POST!
mikem7715 12-10-2006, 11:16 PM its not on any disc sets. They should come out with a disc set of still unsolved cases,or a disc set of solved cases,or one featuring missing people or dissapearances. After years of watching UM,and not getting regular updates,i find myself googling for new info, and news articles.

I agree with you Mikem7715.
NDAlum2003 12-11-2006, 12:42 AM Angela Hammond was her name.
It has never been solved, but it's on one of the DVD homemade sets we trade here on the board.
PM Crystaldawn for more information.
unsolved88 12-11-2006, 05:26 PM Although a sad case, I've always wondered why Angela didn't simply get in her car and leave when she noticed the man in the truck staring at her as he kept going around the block. When my mom and I first saw this case a few years ago on Lifetime, we both practically screamed at the TV for her to hang up the phone and drive away.

Kenneth McDuff is suspected of being her killer. More info here:

mikem7715 12-11-2006, 11:28 PM If he was a suspect in her case(he seemed like a real sleezebag) wouldnt it be easy enough to track down wether or not he owned an old green truck with a fish mural in the back window?By the way Dislimb, how did you know he was listed as a suspect in her case?

I think the odds are pretty good that he had repainted it afterwards. He knows Rob got a good look at the vehicle, so If I had to bet on it, I would bet he had it repainted.
kadrmas15 12-12-2006, 03:29 PM Well I doubt it was McDuff. While certain parts of the abduction match McDuff's M.O. and while he was not in prison at the time of Hammond's abduction the physical description of the man did not really match McDuff. McDuff was clean shaven and wore his hair short. However the physical description of the man does match Alva Hank Worley who was McDuff's accomplice in kidnapping, raping and murdering Colleen Reed who was also profiled on UM. Worley pled guilty in the Reed case and received a 40 year sentence. McDuff of course being one of only two people as far as I know to receive a death sentence only to get paroled only to get another death sentence. Anthony Prevatte is the other and he was also talked about on UM.
kadrmas15 12-12-2006, 03:32 PM Yes I would agree with wiseguy that it is most likely the abductor re-painted his truck within days of the abduction. He probably something similiar to what Darrell Wilson did in the days after Sherry Eyerly was abducted. Wilson painted his truck brown when it had been green before. I imagine this abductor did something similiar in painting his truck a completely different color. I wonder if they ever put Rob under hypnosis to see if he could recall any details?
deedeee 12-13-2006, 08:17 AM I agree, McDuff looked nothing like the abductor. Unless he created a disguise with wig and beard. His accomplice on the Colleen Reed case fits the description more so in relation to appearance....
The poor boyfriend. On this episode he looked so distraught. Man, most of these um cases could have been prevented if these girls were not out late at night by themselves ....
mikem7715 12-13-2006, 01:01 PM even if he repainted his truck, neighbors would remember the green truck with fish in back window, the mural is odd,if your neighbor had such a truck, wouldnt you notice it?And if they suddenly repainted it?
kadrmas15 12-13-2006, 05:16 PM Well it could be that the truck was stolen. It could be the guy moved around from place to place a lot and no one noticed it. It could be that it was from a different state and his neighbors did not notice it. It could be that he is one of these guys who never talks to his neighbors and keeps to himself and no one paid attention to him or what he did and didnt notice anything about him. A number of possibilities. I am pretty sure this guy did something to the truck after the abduction either re-painting it or at least removing the mural from the back window. As for Deedee I d o largely agree and while you are right that the abductions by logic would probably not have happened had they not been alone that is like saying nothing bad would ever happen to you if you just kept yourself locked up in your house all the time.
deedeee 12-13-2006, 09:33 PM I know what you are saying kadrmas15, but I am not saying women should not go out altogether. I am saying that if they do go out at night they should consider having someone they know with them. It could act as a deterrent. But we are all experts aren't we? :)
kadrmas15 12-14-2006, 04:30 PM Yes you are right Deedeee sorry for the confusion. I misunderstood what you were saying the first time around. Well the thing is I think what you are saying is a good thing to consider but in the town where Angela Hammond was it was small and nothing like that had ever happened there. I think that people like to think their small town is safe and nothing bad can ever happen there. I think McDuff could have possibly been involved in this but I do not think he was the man Angela described. As I said before the description of the man Angela gave does not match McDuff but it does match McDuff's accomplice Alva Hank Worley who helped him abduct Colleen Reed. It is hard for me to believe that was the only time Worley helped McDuff abduct someone. I dont know if Worley himself ever killed anyone but he did help abduct these women and he would rape them along with McDuff. Reed's case I believe was the only one Worley ever was charged with. He pled guilty to rape and kidnapping and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. According to Worley him and McDuff would just drive around looking for women they thought were "hot" and then abduct them. He said him and McDuff were driving around Austin looking for drugs and they saw Colleen Reed at the car wash and apperantly McDuff decided to abduct her instead of getting the drugs. The style of the truck circling the block is similar to McDuff and Worley driving around several times to scope out the area make sure no one else was around before they would abduct a woman.
deedeee 12-14-2006, 09:00 PM that's ok kadrmas15, I agree Worley would most certainly have been involved in other cases apart from the Reed case. Someone like him wouldn't hook up with McDuff randomly unless they were in similar circles and enjoyed similar pursuits. Worley must have committed other offences prior to the Reed case.
