View Full Version : The Christmas Show
80schild.com 12-05-2006, 02:34 PM Ok - so i'm surprised at the calibur of yet another episode that i've never seen before. Did anyone else catch The Christmas Show on Canadian airwaves (CTS TV) Monday Dec 4th?
515 THE CHRISTMAS SHOW
Blair’s attempt to trick Jo into accepting money that would allow her to spend the holidays with her mother goes awry, but she soon comes up with another offer that Jo can’t refuse.
I though the plot was actually believable - there was nothing exagerated for the sake of getting a laugh. It almost felt like a day in the life. The Blair tricking Jo plot was so short, they kept moving/evolving the story at a good pace (something many later years episodes don't do). The writing was also strong as was Natalies subplot - Her reaction was funny when her christmas package finally arrived...And i didn't see that ending coming ( i guess i shouldn't give it away). I am a sucker for serious moments within comedy.
I think CTS might be airing christmas eps every Monday throughout December..just a hunch.
JO jr 12-05-2006, 03:52 PM THIS IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE EP'S, AND IN FACT, WHILE READING THRU SOME OF MY DAILY TRIVIA THREAD, IN FACT EARLIER IN THE WEE HOURS THIS MORNING, I RE-READ WHAT I HAD WRITTEN ABOUT THIS EP. CHECK IT OUT, IF YOU'D LIKE. IT'S CLOSE TO THE 12/25 AREA.
I QUOTED THE TOUCHING SCENE IN THE END THERE, BETWEEN JO & BLAIR, ALONG WITH MY OTHER PERSONAL OBSERVATIONS, INCLUDING WHY I FEEL THESE TWO WERE THE BEST OF FRIENDS. I WATCHED THIS EP A FEW TIMES BACK TO BACK AND THOSE LAST SCENES, INCL THE PART WITH MRS. G AND JO, I COULDN'T TELL YOU HOW MANY TIMES!
I LOVED THIS WHOLE EP, AND I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE IT AGAIN WHEN ME-TV RE-AIRS IT!:D
WHEN I HEAR THAT PEOPLE DON'T LIKE THE LATER SEASONS, I'M BAFFLED. I LOVED EVERY SEASON, AND THEY ALWAYS BROUGHT SOMETHING GREAT. THERE HAD TO BE AT LEAST A FEW EP'S FANS ENJOYED THEN, WEREN'T THERE? YOU HAD TO LOVE THE ONE ABOUT THE EDITORIAL, WHERE JO HANDCUFFS HERSELF TO BLAIR? ACTUALLY, LISA SAID SHE PREFERRED TO DO PHYSICAL COMEDY, AND THIS WAS HER MOST MEMORABLE, FAVORITE SHOW. MAYBE IF THESE TWO EP'S ALONE WERE WATCHED, IT COULD CHANGE SOME MINDS:)
I REALLY, REALLY HOPE WE GET ALL 9 SEASONS OF FACTS ON DVD! THERE IS SO MUCH TO ENJOY WITH ALL THESE SEASONS, IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER:D
canuckkidd 12-05-2006, 04:18 PM This was a very touching episode, it really gave me and hopefully all the viewers an appreciation of what the Christmas Spirit and Holidays are all about.
Robert 13 12-05-2006, 04:18 PM This is undoubtedly my favorite Christmas episode of any show EVER! It has the Christmas feel to it without getting too deep in any storyline. I like how Facts also did this with Christmas In The Big House. I hope we get The Christmas Show on dvd before Christmas 2007!
Nighthawk76 12-05-2006, 07:10 PM "The Christmas Show" is a really good episode. As Jodi said in her post, it really touches on the friendship between Jo and Blair. Still, "Christmas in the Big House" is my favorite among the Christmas episodes.
JO jr 12-08-2006, 03:54 AM I DON'T WANT TO GET ANYONE'S HOPES UP, BUT MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, I WILL BE ABLE TO GET THE ENTIRE EP OF "THE CHRISTMAS SHOW" ON MY VIDEO THREAD. IF NOT THE VIDEO ITSELF, THEN THE LINK, SO YOU CAN DOWNLOAD IT TO YOUR OWN COMPUTER. I'M SOOO EXCITED. I HOPE IT WILL HAPPEN:faint:
LOOK FOR A FACTS FAN FAVORITE-THE ENTIRE EP OF "SEVEN LITTLE INDIANS" LATER TODAY (FRI):bouncers
SAME THING. I WILL POST THE LINK ON MY THREAD, AND ALTHOUGH I'M TRYING TO GET THE VIDEO TO YOU STRAIGHT FROM MY LINK, YOU MAY BE DIRECTED TO THE VIDEO, WHERE YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO DOWNLOAD IT. I WOULD DO IT ASAP, AND IT SHOULDN'T COST YOU ANYTHING. ALSO, IT TOOK ABOUT 35 MINUTES TO DOWNLOAD. YOU WOULD WANT TO SAVE IT, NOT JUST OPEN. IT TAKES JUST AS LONG, ANYWAY, AND I'M NOT SURE HOW LONG THE VIDEO WILL REMAIN ON SENDSPACE. REMEMBER-THIS IS THE COMPLETE EPISODE!!:D
I'M GETTING THE EP'S FROM GILDA. SO PLEASE, EVERYONE, THANK HER FOR TEACHER'S PET, SEVEN LITTLE INDIANS, AND IF WE GET THE ENTIRE CHRISTMAS SHOW, IT IS DUE TO HER, TOO. I'LL TRY TO GET AS MANY AS POSSIBLE, BUT I DON'T WANT TO "OVER STAY MY WELCOME" AS IT WERE. I AM VERY GRATEFUL FOR HER TIME AND ASSISTANCE TO SHARE THESE, NOT ONLY WITH ME, BUT TO ALLOW ME TO SHARE THEM WITH OTHER FACTS OF LIFERS:)
TO THAT END, I AM ASKING FOR YOUR HELP AGAIN, AS I'M TRYING TO MAKE THE FACTS VIDEO THREAD AS HUGE AS POSSIBLE FOR ALL OF US. A KIND OF, ONE STOP SHOP, AS IT WERE. SO IF THERE IS ANY WAY YOU CAN UPLOAD ANY CLIPS, OR ENTIRE EP'S, PLEASE DO, AND MAKE ME AWARE OF IT, AND I WILL ADD IT TO MY THREAD, SO ALL OF US FANS CAN ENJOY;) THANKU:)

That is bull crap. I uploaded these episodes for the FOL Beyond forum months ago. I stopped uploading for them because, well really the fans there were too damn selfish and took advantage of what I was doing. I compared these episodes to the ones I uploaded and they are the exact same ones. Please don't add anymore to your thread without giving credit to the right person.

Before I left last year, I was a member here for four and a half years. Posted many times on the FOL board, so I do know the love fans have for the show. I know you're not selling them, but you're giving credit to a person who did nothing but download free episodes. If it weren't for me, these episodes wouldn't have been available to download in the first place. You got to understand how I could be a little bit upset by this.
No need for the peace question. I'm not trying to fight with you, I just want credit given to the right person. This took a lot of time from me to do. I enjoyed it in the beginning, but as it went on and more and more people kept registering at that forum demanding episodes, it became a pain in the ass.

I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND, AND I WANT YOU TO KNOW I AM VERY, VERY APPRECIATIVE OF ALL THE CLIPS AND EPISODES. TRUST ME ON THIS! IF YOU READ MY POSTS, YOU KNOW I'M A HUGE, PASSIONATE FACTS FAN, SO I AM SINCERE WITH MY COMMENDATIONS!
I GUESS US FACTS FANS CAN NEVER GET ENOUGH. I THINK WE ARE JUST SO HAPPY AND EAGER TO GET ANY AND ALL FACTS CLIPS, BECAUSE, AS YOU KNOW CHRISTOPHER, IT HAS BEEN HOW MANY YEARS BEFORE THE DVD'S HAVE FINALLY BEEN RELEASED?!
WE ARE LIKE EAGER LITTLE BEAVERS, AND YES, I COULD DEFINITELY SEE THAT IF WE FOUND A SOURCE FOR FACTS CLIPS, HOW WE COULD BE SO EXCITED, THAT WE WANTED MORE. I WOULD BE GUILTY OF THAT TOO, AS I AM TRYING TO LOCATE ALL THE CLIPS OR EPISODES I CAN, SINCE US FANS DON'T KNOW IF OR WHEN WE WILL EVER BE ABLE TO GET ALL 9 SEASONS ON DVD.
AT LEAST THE SALES FOR THE DVD'S HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY GOOD, SO WE ARE ALL HOPEFUL THAT ALL THE OTHER SEASONS WILL FOLLOW. BUT MEANWHILE...
IN ANY CASE, THANK YOU FOR WRITING BACK AND EXPRESSING YOURSELF. I DO UNDERSTAND HOW IT WOULD BE FRUSTRATING, AND SO AGAIN I WANT TO PERSONALLY THANK YOU ON BEHALF OF ALL US FACTS FANS WHO BENEFITED FROM ALL YOUR HARD WORK ON THE VIDEOS. I REALLY MEAN IT CHRISTOPHER:D
I HOPE YOU WILL NOW START TO COME BACK AROUND THE FACTS BOARDS. I'M SORRY I ONLY FOUND OUT ABOUT SITCOMSONLINE A LITTLE OVER A YEAR AGO, BECAUSE I'M LOVING IT HERE.
I CAN'T SPEAK FOR ANYONE ELSE, BUT IT DOES FEEL LIKE A LITTLE FAMILY HERE ON THE FACTS BOARDS. I REALLY AND TRULY ENJOY THESE PEOPLE, EVEN IF WE DON'T SEE EYE TO EYE. WHO DOES ALL THE TIME? BESIDES, IT KEEPS IT INTERESTING AND FUN. I THINK WE ARE PRETTY RESPECTFUL OF EACH OTHER, TOO.
BUT, I AM ESPECIALLY FOND OF MY HOMIES FROM WYOMING. THEY HAVE A SPECIAL PLACE WITH ME:heart: ...AND THEY ALWAYS WILL!
MAYBE THERE'S A FEW DIFFERENT PEOPLE ON HERE TOO, THAN WHEN YOU WERE AROUND. I'M SURE ONCE YOU GET TO KNOW US, YOU'LL FIND US A BUNCH OF SWELL PEOPLE. HOW'S ABOUT IT CHRISTOPHER?
80schild.com 12-13-2006, 11:01 PM I just watched Christmas In the Big House from Season 6 on CTS. WOW it was one of the worst episodes i've ever seen - and i am a big fan of season six. Does anyone else have an opinion of this Christmas ep?
JO jr 12-14-2006, 12:02 AM DAX-YOU WANT TO FIELD THAT ONE?;)
I PERSONALLY LOVE "CHRISTMAS IN THE BIG HOUSE". AFTERALL, IT'S NOT EVERY DAY THAT THE GIRLS DRESS UP, AND SING, NO LESS.
SO TELL US, WHAT DIDN'T YOU LIKE ABOUT IT 80'S CHILD?
Exedor 12-14-2006, 12:26 PM I captured the audio of Christmas in the Bighouse and posted the songs online if anyone wants them:

canuckkidd 12-14-2006, 01:26 PM I saw that episode for the first time yesterday as well, although I enjoyed "The Christmas show" much more, I still thought "Christmas in the Big House" was not that bad. We did get to see the singing talents of all the girls and Mrs. G. I had my family over yesterday helping me decorate the house and they all were singing along with the girls, especially Blair's number. :D
I did however find it hard to believe the prisoners being so well behaved and singing along to the Christmas tunes. But maybe that's what the Christmas spirit does to people.
Anybody know if Nancy Mckeon was really playing the Piano? Seeing that made me want to start taking lessons again. :)
Nighthawk76 12-14-2006, 02:15 PM I love "Christmas In the Big House" because it is a lot of fun to watch and really touching as well. I love the skit with Jo and Natalie. Still, my favorite scene is when Blair is singing "I'll Be Home For Christmas" solo before the others joined in. Lisa has such a beautiful voice.

I like this episode, but the prisoners are funny. They certainly don't act like hardened criminals. Of course they were very tv sitcom type prisoners--meaning about as far from reality as possible. Hee.
I also think it's funny that the girls perform their 3 numbers--Jo/Nat, Mrs. G and Tootie--and then expect the show to be over. How long was the show? Five minutes? Didn't they think they might have needed to come up with a few more acts off the top of their heads?
But in regards to the discussion, I like the first two Christmas episodes. The ones I don't care for are the Bailey being born one (sorta cheesy) and the Beverly Ann "It's a Wonderful Life" take off one (been done to death).

OK. FIRST, NANCY SAID IN AN INTERVIEW THAT SHE TOOK PIANO LESSONS WHEN SHE WAS LITTLE, SO THAT COULD VERY WELL BE HER. I'VE ALWAYS WONDERED IF SHE REALLY WAS PLAYING, SO AFTER HEARING THAT, I'M ASSUMING SHE WAS. ALTHOUGH, IN THE SUMMER OF 84, IT DOESN'T LOOK AS IF SHE'S PLAYING THE PIANO FOR REAL ALL THE TIME.
NOW...ONTO MORE SERIOUS BUSINESS;)
DID YOU KNOW THAT CHRISTMAS IN THE BIG HOUSE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A TWO-PARTER? ACTUALLY WHEN THE GIRLS WENT TO THE PRISON, ONE OF THEM WAS TO BE TAKEN HOSTAGE, BECAUSE THE PRISONERS WERE INDEED HOSTILE. THEY WERE TO BUM RUSH THE STAGE AND TAKE BLAIR.
OF COURSE, THIS BEING A COMEDY, SHE WOULD MAKE SOME COMMENT ABOUT HOW EVEN MURDERES FIND HER IRRESISTABLE; AND JO WOULD FOLLOW UP WITH, "YEAH. WELL HAVE A NICE TIME PRINCESS. I'M SURE THEY'LL BE REAL INTERESTED IN ALL YOUR HARVEST QUEEN STORIES."
ALTHOUGH EVERYONE WAS AGAST AT JO'S INSENSITIVETY, THE WRITERS HAD A PLAN.
JO SHOUTED THAT BLAIR WAS FILTHY RICH, AND THAT HER DAD WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR HIS LITTLE GIRL. SHE SUGGESTED THEY ASK FOR $1 MILLION
EACH, TO BE WIRED INTO THEIR BANK ACCOUNTS, AS WELL AS PROVIDING ONE OF HIS PRIVATE JETS FOR THEIR ESCAPE.
THE PRISONERS AGREED. BUT JO, FEELING GUILTY OVER PRESSURING BLAIR TO GO TO THE PRISON IN THE FIRST PLACE, DEMANDED THAT SHE BE TAKEN INSTEAD. BESIDES, SHE THOUGHT IF SHE COULD TELL THEM ABOUT HER FATHER, THEN THEY MIGHT HAVE SOME LITTLE BONDING EXPERIENCE AND SYMPATHY, SO AS NOT TO HARM HER IN ANY WAY. BESIDES, WHO BETTER TO FIEND OFF THESE MEN?
SO IN THE END, BY USING HER WITS AND SHOWING HER LOVE FOR GOD:boxing: JO COMES OUT OF THE PRISON UNSCATHED. THE MEN, HOWEVER, DON'T FARE AS WELL. SINCE JO WAS ABLE TO STALL FOR JUST ENOUGH TIME, THE SWAT TEAM WAS ABLE TO (WELL, LET'S JUST SAY IT'S A COMEDY, THEREFORE THE WRITER'S DECIDED NOT TO SHOW THE PRISONERS' REMAINS) TAKE CONTROL OF THE SITUATION.
AFTER MUCH THOUGHT BETWEEN THE WRITERS, PRODUCERS AND CAST, HOWEVER, IT WAS WISELY DECIDED TO KEEP THIS A NICE, LIGHT CHRISTMAS EPISODE. THEREFORE, THEY NIXED THE WHOLE SECOND PART.
I DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU, BUT I'M KINDA GLAD THEY DIDN'T DO A PART 2. ALTHOUGH, IT DEFINITELY WOULD HAVE BEEN INTERESTING. AND THEN...WHY I'M SURE THEY WOULD HAVE TO BRING IT UP IN OTHER EPISODES, WOULDN'T THEY?
LONG LIVE JO:cool:
Nighthawk76 12-14-2006, 06:04 PM I think that "Christmas In The Big House" is perfect just the way it is. :D
80schild.com 12-15-2006, 03:08 AM Ok, so i guess i am almost alone on disliking this episode here... But come on guys - the plot is quite thin. the girls get hooked into performing for prisoners - thats it - absolutely no sub plots! The musical numbers were embarassing for me to watch (although Jo and Nat's skit was kinda funny - kinda). Mrs G didn't sing well in this ep IMO and Tootie could have had a stronger performance too. The Christmas eps that came before and after this season in S5 and S7 were so much better. absolutely no entertainment value was in this - come on, watching bad singers sing is boring (althought i'll give Blair a credit- she was the best for by far) . You all know i love Season 6 - but this just seemed to be one of the worst eps ever. EVER. i put this with The best sister, and Brian & Sylvia....sorry but i was very dissapointed in the quality here...
candycandy 11-10-2012, 01:39 PM i like the XMAS SHOW best: it highlight the strong friendship of BLAIR & JO, as well as how MRS. G is closest to both her 2 older girls (you see how happy & surprised MRS.G is when BLAIR appears), i love the ending when the 3 of them kind of hug each other......Very magical & make me wanna have friends like them!
