Lots of fans say that Penny was annoying, and one poster pointed out that she was only really good during the abuse four parter, then went downhill. I've realized that too. Would the Penny character have been better if she HAD gone to the foster care with that lady and her last time on screen was saying goodbye to everybody(the Evans, Bookman, and Willona, even though "Evanses" and "Willona" seemed to go together, especially in the fifth season)? Or what if Bookman had adopted her and she only came around when he came to fix the apartment(which he rarely ever did) Would GT fans have liked her better?

I remember in a TV Guide article at the time, there was some profile done about TV watching in prison, and what inmates preferred to see. Aside from fights about what programs ( one person being upset that he could never get to see PBS shows --there was in particular that he liked, but can't recall it --AHA! Aside from opera shows, I think it was the film "The African Queen" that he wanted to see! ), one touching moment came when Penny was cowering in fear from her attacker, and the inmate went up to the TV, touched the tear on his cheek, and placed it on the TV screen image of Penny's cheek. :crying: :(

Bookman raising Penny would've been a disaster.
