I've been reviewing season 1 and someone on one of the commentaries asked about what happened to Ted's kids. And it made me curious because they started out with at least brief appearances in the start and seem to have disappeared by the second have of the season. It seems odd to me that the whole concept of the show is future Ted telling this story to his kids, and I don't see them anymore (keep in mind I have not seen any of season 2 yet so I don't know if they have come back again or not).

They do show up every once in a while. I always thought they kinda came in and out because he was too into his memories. He's so absorbed in telling the story that they don't show them because they are actually listening to him, maybe?
Since the writers only have 22 minutes to tell thier story, they want to devote more time to the main cast, instead of wasting a minute with the kids in the "future."
Besides, showing the kids looking bored and complaining about thier father's story gets a little repetative week after week.

That's a really good point! :)
Lyndsy Fonseca now has a part on Desperate Housewives as Dana Delaney's daughter, so they may need to re-cast the part if they want to continue with the kids.
