I used to love this show as a kid, but this one definitely jumped the shark first episode big time. But I would like to comment on episode 12 in particular. They were trying to recreate their first day on the island, and it was done very poorly. They made no effort to match the clothes with episode 1, just awful. If a fish swallows a radio (a proposterous notion in and of itself) I think it's pretty safe to say that the radio will be broken permanently. Also notice how before the transmitter gets into the ocean one of the sides is missing, but when it is removed from a fish (?!?) suddenly the missing side is found!
That scene where the professor fixes the transmitter the second time is horrendous. Man, what part of that scene did they get correct? Gilligan is told to "stand right there," but then the Skipper tells him to get "some wood for the fire...Lot's of wood" Why on Earth would they need would for a fire on an island near Hawaii? It never get's cold! Then the four castways who have been heaven knows where together on the island suddenly enter the scene together (somehow Mary Ann has managed to change clothes). Gilligan tells them that the Professor has just about fixed the transmitter, and the other 4 have gotten quite excited. They start asking the Professor idiotic questions about where he can send signals that no one their age would possibly ask. This is soon cut off when the Professor gets the transmitter fixed. Just at this moment, about 2 minutes after Gilligan has left, he comes back with a tremendous amount of wood logs, of which no muscleman could have collected in that time period, much less a weakling like Gilligan. Skipper is talking to CQ telling them who he is. Initially Skipper tells Gilligan not to bother him and not to come any closer. However, Gilligan complains that the "logs are heavy." This gets the Skipper so exasperated that he tells Gilligan to "drop them anywhere." Gilligan doesn't appear to have heard him clearly so he asks again if he should drop them and Skipper yells "drop them!", so Gilligan does and several logs land directly on top of the transmitter, crushing it. The characters act as if it's Gilligan's fault, but blame could just as easily go to the Skipper. Plus, it's never made clear why they would need wood in the first place. Although personally, I am still struck by the fact that Gilligan could not have possibly gotten all that wood in that little time Then the Skipper has to "rub it in" at Gilligan by picking up the crushed transmitter and showing it to the other castways. Did anyone else notice the odd sexual tension between the Skipper and Ginger in this scene, where she is pounding on his shoulders? Very strange
Of course the writers of this garbage conviently "forgot" that the castaways still had the transmitter in episode 4 where Gilligan bangs on it, causing the insides to fall out, just at the time he had gotten it working while a pilot was flying over the island. This show was pure garbage. Why did I watch this piece of...? Who knows.
I will not reply to the post nor make any other on this "Gilligan's Island" forum. Writing this does oddly make me feel a bit better though...

It was preety consistant the whole way through. If you didn't like it from the start it isn't your kind of series. If you like it from the start you will like it to the end.

I think it is safe to say you don't know the history of the episode. The pilot was very expensive to film since it was made on location in Hawaii. Since 3 of the cast members would not be featured when the series aired there was no point in airing the pilot. Instead of waisting all the money to make it Sherwood Schwartz decided to save as much as he could from it. Russell Johnson, Dawn Wells, and Tina Louise were not in the pilot so they filmed the scenes where John Gabriel and the rest (No pun there) were in. The episode really was just made to use pilot footage.

Well almost all of them were the same clothes every episode. I belive by the 12th episode Ginger had already made another dress from Gilligan's bag. She explains it. The Howells have a ton of clothes anyway. We see a lot in Home Sweet Hut. No big suprise there so it really doesn't matter about the cotinuity.

It is a big island and it is there first day on the island. They probbaby just went exploring or gather food. There is a lot to do when you don't know where you are or how long you will be there.

He heard alright. He knew it was dumb but the Skipper is a big guy. He wants to double check and follow his orders. He did it.

Wouldn't you blame Gilligan.

1. He shouldn't have gotten so many.
2. He didn't need to drop them.

Gilligan does a lot of work. The wood didn't look perfectly cut. I am sure a lot was already on the ground.

I think the scenes with Russell, Dawn, and Tina were filmed in an attempt to make a full episode for the pilot, but I agree it didn't really quite work. It was a rushed job. I disagree with gilligan fanatic, a radio definitely would have been destroyed if it was thrown into the ocean (as all electronics would be when dunked under water). But as with a lot of TV shows, you have to suspend disbelief to some extent.

I believe it was a trick to get Gilligan out of the way for a while. Besides they need fire for signals, cooking, etc.

That was the radio that the Skipper was able to turn into a transmitter and Gilligan did it too by hitting it. He tried to demonstrate to the Professor how he did it, but then it came apart. I presume it was fixed, but was never used as a transmitter again.

I've always been baffled how anyone could not like Gilligan's Island. Be glad you don't live at my house, where it's on all the time. :D
