I noticed that for quite a while (into the 5th season or so?) you see Governor Gatling wearing his wedding band. He is supposed to be a widower. Now, I realize a lot of people will continue to wear their rings after their spouses pass away out of love and respect (my mom did--there's nothing wrong with it), but I thought it was kind of weird because he seemed to have no idea why he couldn't meet women. Did it occur to him that might not help? :D

Howdy,
I seem to recall that the ring on his left-hand *did* vanish once, and I think the wedding ring disappeared at the same time. Maybe I imagined it, but if I find the episode (episodes?), I will post the name.
You’re right, his rings are very noticeable, especially since he tends to gesture a lot. In answer to your question, probably not. Doubtless, his band is so much a part of himself that he wouldn't think about that.
You know, I find myself looking more at his lovely tie and handkerchief combos! I know, strange.

I never noticed the ring. The observation that I made about Governor Gatling was that Katie did not resemble him at all. Was their a milk man....No I'm keeping the board clean and not going there.

I guess she was supposed to take after her mom. :D

Well, I was watching "The Army Wants you" from 1st season and Gene's wedding ring is not there, although his other ring is. That must have been what I was thinking before. Maybe he'd mislaid it that week, since next episode it was back. Or, were the release dates the same as the production order?

I've been watching late 6th/early 7th season episodes and noted that his wedding ring vanished with alarming frequency, though pinkie is still there. It's most notable in "Two Boys and Their Dog" since it starts with close-up of him signing two documents. And he actually *does* seem to be signing it Eugene X. Gatling, too.
Quite a signature episode this, as we also get Benson signing a check a few minutes later though I couldn’t see if RG actually wrote Benson Dubois or just random scribbles.

LOL....interesting! I'll have to watch that again. And for some reason, when Benson signed his name I could have sworn it looked as though he was signing "Robert Guillaume".

Hey Monika! Yeah, it stinks about Rene but he has a positive attitude about it. I think he has some other projects in the works anyway (as usual), and I know next summer he will be doing theater in Washington DC. I am planning to take a trip out there for it. :D
And no, I haven't seen the Newhart appearance yet. If you know when it's coming on, let me know! :)

I noticed a ring - especially in the tiny bathroom in "Bugging the Governor".
