"American Idol" winner Taylor Hicks is biting the hand that made him a star.
The gray-haired pop-star says he won't watch the FOX show anymore -- and just wanted to use the exposure he got from winning "Idol" to further his career.
"'American Idol' for me is fizzling out," he tells the latest edition of Relix magazine, a publication formerly devoted to following the Grateful Dead.
"I want to take that opportunity and exposure: you either come see me, buy my album or you don't. I'm not trying to meet expectations. If you can say you're a working musician, then you're doing something good.
"I'm just glad to be a working musician because that's what I've always been."
Hicks won "Idol" last season over Katharine McPhee.

.... OKAY?!
That bothers me a lot. It reminds me of Jacob Hoggard from season 2 of Canadian Idol. He had a band and he only went on to get publicity for his band. He got third place, and I just recently heard his band on the radio. I guess it worked, but I HATE it when people do that. TAYLOR! Why do you have to let me down like this!?

Saw this on IDF. I heard that those quotes were taken out of context.

I'm with him. I don't watch it either except for the auditions. That's the only good part of this program.

Not exactly the best way to win over fans of the show who voted for him...

People should chill out. He probably said those things for real, but I don't think he meant it in a negative way. The media loves to twist quotes around to make it sound like something juicy. Taylor's publicist said that those words were misconstrued. Same thing happened with Chris Daughtry when he gave an interview after his elimination, people thought he was being arrogant, but he really wasn't. I just hope this doesn't hurt Taylor's sales though. =/

I hear ya.
Kelly tried this a while back. After Simon called her on it, she soon took her Idol comments back.
