View Full Version : Am I the only Good Times Fan who felt Keith was a Breath of Fresh Air in Season 6?
TVFactFan 11-28-2006, 03:35 PM I mean the man was just funny as hell to me. I think he was a great compliment to J.J and had singing talents and voice impersonsation skills. I just don;t understand why so many Fans dislike Keith. He had some of the funniest lines in season 6 and the Evans House IMO was more LIVELY when he moved in. His Quote to start off the sixth season was classic and laugh everytime I hear it because he made the statement while he was in a BAD MOOD
"I thought I was going to be living in the penthouse overlooking Lake Michigan, now look at my view, Bookman's underwear on a clothesline"
LOL. Keith was the man
Ireneparalegal 11-28-2006, 03:38 PM I highly preferred Keith to Penny. I mean, back then, I didn't care. Watching GT in syndication and being older and wiser, I realize how the Penny character was so not needed. It was nice seeing the family get involved in helping her, but Willona adopting her was a bit too much.
Brian Damage 11-28-2006, 03:39 PM Keith and his corny impressions annoyed me.
Ireneparalegal 11-28-2006, 03:40 PM Keith and his corny impressions annoyed me.
I agree with you on the impressions. I hated that. I still do. And what was it with Good Times having two characters (Keith and Bookman) doing impressions????? Is that how they got "discovered"?
SitcomGyrl1955 11-28-2006, 03:42 PM Keith and his corny impressions annoyed me.
I agree. He just never fit in, in my opinion. Even now, if they show an ep with him in it, I flip the channel. I don't particularly care for the Penny character either, but I can watch her better than I can Keith. I just loved the older eps when there was just Florida, James, Wilona, and the kids.

Another Classic keith scene
Keith: i'm not job hunting today
J.J: Huh?
Keith: read my lips totem pole, I said I'm not going
lol
frani 11-28-2006, 06:28 PM I think the problem with Keith was that, like Penny, he was just stuck in the show in a jump the shark move. Sure, it was good that Thelma got married, but they really didn't seem to have any chemistry like she did with Ebe or Larry. Keith felt like a stand up doing bits and impressions on the show and never felt really organic to the show. Bookman, on the other hand, did. He had a likeability factor (imo) that kept him interesting.
I think that he was funny in a way, though i didn't think he was a particularly good actor and always seemed very stiff and out of place.
Ireneparalegal 11-28-2006, 06:50 PM I really liked Larry. I hated seeing him go. Imagine if he had come back succesful and dated Thelma again? Ibe was HORRIBLE. Thelma jumping into marriage without thinking.
frani 11-28-2006, 06:53 PM I agree that Ibe was horrible, but there was a chemistry between him and Thelma. She and Keith had zero chemistry.

That's your opinion. Keith sucked ass in every aspect including singing and voice talent.
Keith and his corny impressions annoyed me.
I agree those impressions was what annoyed me the most about the Keith character although not the only thing.

I only remember him doing the impressions at a Talent Show

CARL???? You liked Carl? He was the worst addition.
TVFactFan 11-29-2006, 05:58 PM CARL???? You liked Carl? He was the worst addition.
Nope, he was a underrated addition
Brieannas21 11-29-2006, 06:06 PM Nope, he was a underrated addition
I would have to disagree, he was the worst addition ever, and he brought nothing to the show. No he was just loud and annoying.
But I will agree with you about Keith, I thought he was a great addition to the show. They should have had him on when James was around instead of Larry.

He was obnoxious, controlling, annoying and loud. What is there to like???
I only remember him doing the impressions at a Talent Show
He did them at other times as well, but even without the impressions I still found the Keith character annoying.

Yes, he was annoying. He also was goofy-looking and so not funny.

Ireneparalegal 12-01-2006, 05:24 PM I'd take Sweet Daddy Williams over Bookman. LOL
Brieannas21 12-01-2006, 05:27 PM I'd take Sweet Daddy Williams over Bookman. LOL
I think Sweets should have been on more. He should have gotten his own show

Without Gurdy, there would not be one of the most hilarious episodes in sitcom history.
"The Lord is my German Shepard..."
"Instead of chasing girls, I'll be chasing cats!"

Yeah, but it was the line in Good Times that had me  That episode abt the meatloaf is the one GT episode that makes me :brent the most!!!!
catlover79 06-11-2007, 12:39 PM I think most GT fans would prefer Florida with Lootin' Lenny over Carl!! :joke: Florida would whip Lenny into shape, that's for sure! THAT would be hilarious TV.
I've only watched the first couple of episodes of Season 6, and I think Keith was pretty cute! He did seem to be a bit controlling, though, which is not good.

When he was doing the impersonations a little but overall he was cool
catlover79 06-14-2007, 02:16 PM Yes, Keith had his faults and flaws, but overall he was a decent guy. He was cute, he could sing, he loved his wife and in-laws and was great with kids. That made him OK in my book.
Ireneparalegal 06-14-2007, 04:09 PM Let me reiterate. In the Xmas episode, he did those impressions and they were awesome. That was a good time to do impressions, not any old time in an episode to try and be funny. At that time, it was annoying as hell.
catlover79 10-04-2007, 12:18 AM Thelma and Keith would probably be grandparents by now -! I like to think that they've stayed married and happy. I imagine that Thelma and Keith had a boy and a girl - who fought like cats and dogs (sound familiar? ;)).
