View Full Version : Do you feel guilty enjoying songs that the singers of the song hate?
Janice Johnson 11-28-2006, 02:05 PM Do you feel bad liking a song that the singer of the song hates? I heard that Mariah Carey hates the song, 'I Don't Wanna Cry." I was like, 'I don't feel very right enjoying a song from her that she hates. It made me feel really bad..........................:(
jpcanes 11-28-2006, 03:21 PM If I enjoy a song, I enjoy a song.
If Mariah doesn't like it, that doesn't mean I can't.
I worked in music retail for 20 years and the thing I hated the
most was someone coming in the store and asking if such and
such album was any good. Half the time it was in regards to
an artist I didn't like. What am I gonna say? Most times I gave them
the, "you're asking the wrong person on that."
What would strike me as funny is 9 times out of 10 that very same person would look at me with a shocked look on his or her face. And say, "you don't like such and such?!"
Many people have very strong opinions on music, myself included.
I try very hard not to knock people for the music they enjoy (friends and I will tease each other back and forth sometimes... lol). But at the same time, I can express my likes or dislikes without calling someone an idiot for liking something I don't.
This music forum is a lot of fun and I always am interested in others opinions, even if they differ from my own. I may post some videos, music, etc.. in this forum that other people can't stand, but there is never any reason to get personal about it. A LARGE majority of you never do.
Sorry, didn't mean to get off topic, just wanted to throw that out there.
Already Gone 11-28-2006, 04:34 PM Nope, If I like a song, I'm not going to stop liking it or feel bad that I like it because whoever recorded it, hates it.

LMFAO!!!! I know what you mean. Back in the days, I worked part-time in a music store and when someone would ask me "Is the Mariah CD any good?" I would smile and pretty much say what you would say, "I don't like Mariah, so let me play it for you over here (on some headphones)." Or I would tell them, "Well, it's selling real good, I don't like her, but you might." LOL:lol: The manager didn't care what I said.
80sTrivia 11-28-2006, 08:27 PM It doesn't bother me at all. Madonna loathes all the music she made during the 80s and refuses to perform most of the songs in concert now, but songs like "Open Your Heart" and "True Blue" are some of my favorite songs of hers...

That is funny, Irene.
My thing always used to be (if it was by an artist that I kind of liked)
if someone asked, for example, how the new Journey album was.
I would say: If you liked the last one, you'll like this one.
Nighthawk76 11-29-2006, 01:26 AM As long as I like the song, that is all that matters. It is pretty well known that Paul McCartney hates the version of "The Long And Winding Road" that appears on The Beatles Let It Be album. However, I think that it is one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded and one of Paul's finest songs.
