With James though, the simple act of him removing his belt was enough to instill fear into his kids. He didn't need to actually use it, since the kids had a sampling of his belt before, they knew what WOULD happen.

I remember my father, when he would take off his belt, my brother would instantly stop doing what he was doing, or do what he should be doing. I was never hit as a child, because I saw how my brother got in trouble with that belt, and that was GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME!

I threw a fit in the store, and my mom don't play, my 2 daughters know now at an early age that my mom doesn't play, when she says stop or no she means it. My mom is the kind of mom who would spank other people kids who acted up that would spend the night at our house. Yet all of my friends loves my mom for some strange reason :lol: my house was the hangout house while I was growing up.

That's a good point. With my siblings and I, it was the wooden spoon. Not that our folks needed to use it that much, but once we got out of line, all they had to do was mention "wooden spoon" and we'd stop whatever it was we were doing wrong!! :rofl: The sting of a wooden spoon on your bare behind will definitely instill fear in a person. :lol:

That's right. I think a lot of today's kids would learn well from a wooden spoon.
