I just finished watching the Paris movie for the first time on CTS & i've got to say that i am very surprised/impressed at it's quality. The end scene where Blair watches Jo say good bye to her summer fling was pretty intense - the acting and even the directing was at a much higher calibre that normal. They really used the city in this film, lots of great exterior scenes - and i'm still impressed that FOL had helicopter shots...haha.

I really liked the grittiness and use of handheld shots throughout, Asaad Kelada did a great job directing ( i guess the spirit of the city got to him too) - too bad he couldn't carry this new found inspiration over the regular episodes of the show.

We'll see if this is released on the next DVD set.

I don't really watch much FOL just cause it kinda passed me by, but I have watched a couple episodes, and of these, Paris by far my fav. Granted, I'm totally in love with Paris, so I am slightly bias, but I agree with the general creativity in the shots and the far better quality of acting and the such....Paris is just incredibly inspirational, so such could indeed be the source!

I agree the scenes of Paris were breathtaking and did justice to Paris. I am kind of embarassed to admit this, but the scene that was hard for me to watch was when Jo and Blair are going up the escalator and discussing whether or not Jo and David will ever meet again. As they go up the escalator, David is looking in the window from the outside watching Jo leave wondering if he will ever see her again. It's a scene all to familiar with me, I know from personal experience what it's like to have to say goodbye to somebody really special and wonder if you will ever see them again. :( In my mind I was thinking to myself, that really sucks.

Yes that entire goodbye scene was extremely impressive - the massive & stylistic Paris airport added to the feel. This has to be one of the greatest Blair/Jo scenes from the series - the acting and plot was very believable, and yes that pan from the escalator to David was just the sort of gut wrenching ending the scene deserved.

I'll also ad that this is one of the few times that i actually believe the plot - It really does feel realistic compared to other regular episode scenarios from the set - which seem at times very choreographed.

Again - i was surprised at the quality.

I really like the Paris movie too. I like it a lot better then the Down Under movie in 1987. I like how Blair learned that she could have a great time without having to be with a boy. The goodbye scene between Jo and David is really moving. I also love how Blair is there for Jo at the end.

I agree, at the time, I didn't appreciate the Paris movie as much as I should. Looking back at it years later, it was a pretty good movie, plot and character wise as well as scenery wise especially for a tv movie based on a comedy. I liked that it reinforces how close Blair and Jo are and it also coincides with how personal Jo can get when it comes to relationships (which is true to her character). It took more advantage of its location much more than the Down Under movie did. IMO, the Down Under movie was comedic... I really didn't see much to the plot. Although, for whatever reason, the one part that always stick to me (blooper wise) once the part where Blair and Jo are running to the stage and I think Blair almosts slips and you can see Nancy and Lisa trying so hard not to laugh let alone stay in character.

I agree, I have the movie on tape and it is always a favorite of mine. Such a great storyline and acting. The scenery was beautiful. I do like the Down Under Movie as well though and I do feel that they also took advantage of the Australian atmosphere.

I never appreciated the Paris movie, but I think I need to see the non syndicated version. It's probably better that way.

I think it's a bit weird that Natalie and Tootie run all over Paris with a middle aged man, semi famous or not.

But the acting is particularly good especially in the Jo and Blair scenes.

Oh, I hope this is on the next set. Like raya, I want to see the complete film without it being chopped up for syndication. I said it before, I think Sony adding a sticker to the front hailing the Paris movie as a bonus feature or bonus disc would mean big sales for this set. It offers an incentive even for the casual buyer because they feel like they are getting something extra. Does anyone know what time frame we are looking at for this one? I know it's too soon but maybe an announcement in a couple of months.

That has always bothered me too. What did they do for money(not Blair of course). Where did they stay. How did Mrs G explain to the Paris school what happened. :confused:

Yay! I'm not the only one. It's just that in Peekskill normally Mrs. G is so protective and acting all mom like. Then they are in a foreign country and she's not? Especially when essentially she is their guardian and if anything happens to them over there it would be her responsibility. But yeah, I know it's only a tv show. LOL.
