Does anyone remember a half hour sitcom named Hank, possibly from the 1950's or early 60's? Hank was a college student who drove an ice cream truck, then had a sibling come to live with him? Can't remember the actors or much else.

Yes, I remember "HANK". It was created by Garry Marshall & Jerry Belson, and produced by Warner Bros. Television for NBC in the 1965-'66 season (Fridays, 8-8:30pm[et]). A.T.&T.s' "Bell System" was the primary sponsor. It was about an eager young man who tries to attend college without actually registering [he can't afford the tuition, as he's raising his younger sister as well]. Lots of schemes to "sneak" into the classes by disguise, lots of money-making schemes, lots of confusion and warmth...and in the last episode, Hank does earn the right to attend Western State as a legitimate student! The late Dick Kallman {one of Lucille Ball's "Desilu Workshop" players in the late '50s} was Hank....I believe the series is still in the Time-Warner archives.........

Go to TV Party. They have an excellent writeup on the series. It's something of a lost series as it has never re-aired anywhere in the world in the last 40 years. A color show but even Library of Congress only has a couple of black and white prints. It's not even listed in the television series available book (BIB). Would love to see this come out on DVD or be aired somewhere but it's buried deeper and further than Jimmy Hoffa's remains.

Thanks. I often wonder where some actors go when they've been in a show, but then are never heard from again. I felt the same way with Dick Hayme (spelling?) who played the robot on Get Smart, or the young singing Ricky from the Partridge family.

another lost classic

Time slot killed it, rare occurance all 3 networks had freshman shows at 8 PM ET Fridays.....CBS won with Wild Wild West which was on 7:30 to 8:30 IN B/W THAN LASTED 3 MORE YEARS 1966-69 in color NBC Hank weak lead in Camp Runamuck and ABC had Tammy at 8PM with The Flintstones as lead in. Tammy was cancelled on July 15, 1966 and Flintstones, Hank and Runamuck all cancelled in Sept 1966, Jim and Artie clearly ruled the time slot.

Used to watch Runamuck too. These days not much creative comedy out there.

...the pilot episode was filmed in black and white. When the show was sold to NBC in the winter of 1965, they decided that the series would be filmed in color, as was virtually every prime-time show on the network that fall [with the exception of "I DREAM OF JEANNIE" and "CONVOY", for different reasons-
cheapness on Screen Gems' part; using existing World War II stock footage on Universal's].

It was actually pretty common for shows from that season to have their pilots in black and white. Among others, Hogan's Heroes, Get Smart, Please Don't Eat the Daisies are all series that ran in color but had black and white pilots.
