There's a line in "Stand In for Murder" that I can't make out & was wondering if anyone else could.
It's the scene where Ralph, Norton, Frank & Nick are in the apartment. When "Nick" walks out he says "Goodbye -----" to me it sounded like "Sweetie" or "Speedy" but I couldn't see another man calling a man "sweetie" & "speedy" made no sense to me lol. Anyone know?

As it sounds like you're referring to the April 1954 version, the answer would most definitely be yes. He'd broken his leg on Jan. 30, 1954 - in a "Little Lord Fauntleroy" parody he'd written himself (you could almost say he essentially wrote himself off of his own show for the next two months), and didn't come back till the end of March. The "Lawsuit" episode seemed to have been written around his broken leg. Why that latter one was remade during the 1968-69 season, only he and his writers knew . . . :rolleyes:

I always assumed it was because the original version was in pretty poor condition, you can barely even make out what Ralph and Alice are saying to eachother at the end. "Six Months To Live" is one I never understood, Jackie must've really liked that script to have used it 4 times.

Yeah I'll look into it for you. I have a feeling he does say "sweetie" though. It seems a little odd at first but if you think about it, it's not the first time they used lines like that on the show. For example, Norton calling Ralph a "sweet kid," or Ralph saying, "You're beautiful Norton," in that sarcastic tone of voice.

You know what? I'm an idiot. I had never pulled out the paper in the Lost Episode Collections before *mainly because I'm a neat freak about my DVD's especially at those prices* but when you said that- I did & sure enough there were the dates listed...:rolleyes:...I'm blaming my stupidity on the holidays lol.

Are you in contact with someone at MPI? Or is there a website where they are talking about the re-releases? Hope you don't mind me asking you all these questions *see what happens what your a Honeymooner Historian<--I believe that's what woolworth27 said lol* I'm just excited about the added episodes the re-releases are supposed to have.

^^I agree with that. Afterall if would have been much easier for them to say "no" then it would be to constantly tell people "yes." I really hope they package these DVD's a little better & make them more affordable. I've talked to a few people who would love to buy them but because of the price they refuse to..which I understand but at the same time it hurts sales, which makes it look like people aren't interested. Okay now that I'm rambling..I appreciate the info & hope they respond again soon. If they do & you find anything out would you mind telling me?

OK - I had to go pull out my disks and listen to this line 1000 times to try to figure it out. Funny thing is I never noticed it before and I usually notice things that seem unusual - as this comment does.

So here is what I can figure. It seems that Nick has already said his peace to Kramden and is actually looking at Norton when he says it. If this is true he could be saying "speedy" in reference to Norton's ever so quick witt. Another possibility is he is saying it to Ralph and he may be saying "Sweeney" in reference to Sweeney Todd who was a fictional villain in literature who's weapon of choice was a straight razor. This reference would make sense as a criminal mobster might commonly refer to friends by the names of other killers. It could also be a compliment that Ralph is going to a "killer" insurance salesman.

And then, of course, he could actually be saying sweetie as the italian mob imagery has a lot of closeness closeness and respect among men. I'd be curious of what anyone else thinks - especially someone who might have a transcript or script. Does Nick say something similar in the color remake?

^ All very good points! I know what you mean about watching it over & over...I had my ear right up to the speaker before trying so hard to hear what he was saying lol thank God I was alone :eek:. I'm thinking it did sound more like "speedy" now that you said that..after re-playing I noticed I didn't hear the "t" sound that you would in "sweetie."
