it really was ugly and really just needed a coat of paint. You would think that if they had enough money for J.J. to buy his art supplies, they could have sprung for a bucket of paint.

I agree. When I was a kid we weren't the wealthiest, but my Dad bought paint and painted the inside of our duplex.

I can't help but always look at that dinginess, the dirty walls, etc. It makes me wanna grab a bottle of 409 and clean!!!!

Here, when I see some smudge or dirt on the doors or walls where somone (most likely my five year old) has touched it, I immediately clean it. I can't stand that kind of dinginess. I go thru spray cleaners like you wouldn't believe.

It didn't make sense with Thelma always home "cleaning" and Florida being home, you would think that place would be CLEAN. Especially during that apartment contest. Being poor doesn't mean you are dirty. Take a towel, wet it and wipe of that dirt, especially off that refrigerator.

I think that being that the Evens fridge was most likely a hand me down or it came with the apartment, they probably could have scrubbed it all day with bleach and those spots would have still been there. Although those counters could have used some paint.

I think the whole apartment needed some paint. Those walls were so blah-looking. What color were they? definitely not white. They needed more color in the apartment and some better-looking curtains.

True. Later, when Flo came back to the series, there were large throw rugs on the floor, the walls didn't look like cement anymore, but still, that damn refrigerator made the kitchen look bad. I realize it came with the apt. and it's true, with all those marks and so forth, no amt. of cleaning could bring that refrigerator to life. But I think the counters could have used some paint.

I think two bedrooms is the limit for the projects. I don;t think there was ever a such thing as 3 bedrooms in the projects

There is in Massachusetts. My aunt lives in a 3-bedroom. The project is huge, and there's only a few apartments with a third bedroom.

Yep I grew up in a three bedroom apt. The building I grew up in was went up to four bedrooms and had 1.5 baths. It was built in 1973 apartments were huge. the bActually The Evans could of had a three bedroom considering the were a married couple with 3 kids. If Florida came in with 3 kids and no husband they would have given her a 2 bdrm. The question one should ask was how the heck Wilona got into the projects with no kids and no husband?

Thank you!!! I wanna know too. We know that Alderman Davis got the family their apt. So, it was probably the only one available, which is why they had to take what was given to them. Normally, from what I understand, when you have a certain amt of people in your family, they give you enough bedrooms.

OMG I didn't realize how many mistakes I made in my reply lol. Yeah as far as apts given. It goes if you have 2 kids of different sex and your not married you would get a two bdrm the thinking goes the daughter can sleep in the same room with the mother with the son given the other bdrm or if is a single father the son room with dad. My bro's friend had 1 daughter when she lived in another development they gave her one bedroom her daughter shared a bedroom with her. All in all like you said the apt size is based the size of the family. But dammit how Willona con her way into Cabrini enquiring minds want to know lol.

As far as I know, just getting into a regular apt is the same way. I mean, my girlfriend was pregnant with her first child and when her husband and her went apt. hunting, they were told they would be required to get a two bedroom apt. for the baby, even though she told them that she was going to have the baby sleep in their room in a crib.

Single people can live in the projects, just because a person doesn't have children or isn't married doesn't mean that they can't get an apartment. Especially if they go by your income.

That's not how it is in Mass. A single person can live in the projects, but only if they have kids or are disabled. My husband's friend lived with his mother for years in the projects. He was allowed to live there because he was her caretaker. When she died, he had to move out, despite living there for probably 30 years. I guess it's just varying guidelines in different states.

I know we had this discussion before. I just checked the housing authority rules here in my county and you must have kids or be disabled or elderly. No single person can occupy Section 8 housing or any low-income housing at all.

Are you serious???? I thought everyone had sense enough to know that Thelma had her own bedroom becasuse she was THE ONLY GIRL. And Thelma wasn't the only one who had their own bedroom, James and Florida, HER PARENTS had their own bedroom too.

I have to agree with you on this one Solomon. Everyone knows that if you have 3 kids, and one is a girl, the girl has to have her own bedroom. Or vice versa. Two of the same sex can share a bedroom (or a couch in the living room as JJ and Michael did).

Look at all those fancy clothes Thelma was able to get, despite James getting only $2.50 an hour at the car wash. If the family had splurged on paint and other basic cleaning supplies instead of clothing, the apartment could have looked halfway decent.

I come from a family of 3 kids: 2 girls and a boy in a 3-bedroom house. My brother ended up with his own room and my sister and I shared the larger bedroom. A friend of mine has 6 kids: 5 boys and a girl. The girl has the smallest bedroom to herself. So it does make sense to do it that way.

Willona had them crazy looking blinds. Some orange color with a pattern. I know $$$ was tight but a little cleaner and a rag would do some good.
Notice in that apartment contest, they were able to scrape $$ together to get curtains (materials for curtains rather), couch cover, etc. YET, no cleaner to clean that damn kitchen!

Also, after James died, they ate better, they looked better and the apartment slowly started to look great.

Sometimes no matter how much you clean something, stains will always remain. And those projects weren't new, a few families could have lived in that one unit. And the whole run of the show the 4th season was the only season where you saw painters in the apartment. So I can see why the kitchen always looked dirty even though it was clean, It just needed a coat of paint.
