I know the Lost Episodes were released to cable tv in 1985 but I didn't get a chance to see which episodes they decided to show. Does any one know from all the Lost Episodes that were available at that time how many of them did they show on cable and how many still have not been seen by the public
since their first broadcast in the 50'S?

I don't know an exact number but I know a good portion of the material that's out there now wasn't available then, so those particular shows couldn't have been aired. Even when the WB11 here in New York used to show the Lost Episodes (along with the Classic 39) late at night, they only played a certain number of them, and it was mostly the longer ones. Episodes like "Lost Baby," "Quiz Show," and "Stars Over Flatbush" didn't come to light until the early 90's, much like how the original "Love Letter" wasn't unveiled until a couple years ago. And if I'm not mistaken, "Lost Baby" and "Quiz Show" were only shown on certain specials when they were first "discovered," they never made it to reruns.

I'm pretty sure I answered your question about this before. It was either "Battle Of The Sexes" or "Peacemaker," but that doesn't really have to do with what he's asking.

Thanks for answering my question. It's interesting to know that even to this day they haven't shown on tv all the Honeymooners episodes that are in existence. It's a good thing that us fans have dvds to rely on and the only thing we need now is for MPI to release all the episodes they have. I'm keeping my fingers crossed! :)

There were 68 Lost Episodes shown by SHOWTIME starting in 1985. I just checked my SHOWTIME "Lost Episodes" guide which I saved.

Bill S., a minor correction: It's true "Lost Baby" and "Quiz Show" didn't see air-time until the 90's, but "Stars Over Flatbush" was one of the 68 episodes shown on SHOWTIME beginning in 1985. I double-checked my SHOWTIME guide which I had tucked away.

Hmm...I must've gotten it confused with something else. I'm pretty sure there was some issue about "Stars Over Flatbush" though, something about it not being included in the first VHS release of the Lost Episodes or something like that, I'll have to look into it.

These were the initial 68 "Lost Eps" that SHOWTIME secured the rights to following the "discovery" of the kinescopes in Gleason's vault. SHOWTIME started airing them in 1985.

I explained it episode by episode here:
http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/honeymooners/Stillost.html
http://www.angelfire.com/ny5/honeymooners/europe.html

That makes up the 25 missing episodes (25 because the 1954 version of "Halloween Party" has yet to be released). The 8 Trip to Europe shows are easily available through collectors, as well as "New Bowling Ball," "Six Months To Live" (1952), "Sprained Thumb," and "Love Letter." The remaining 13 have not been seen by the public since their original air date, with the exception of the 1955 remake of "Stand In For Murder," which was shown at a R.A.L.P.H. convention in the 80's. Let me know if you have anymore questions.
