...on Joseph Maloney, who poisoned his wife and then fled to Ireland. I believe it happened in Rochester, NY.
Does anyone here have any info on this case and if he was apprehended? I was also curious as to what poison he used as it wasn't revealed in the segment AFAIK. Thanks.

Why? Do you want to use it to poison someone?
In any case, my guess is that there was sensitive information related to the poison. That's the only reason I can think of as to why the UM segment didn't reveal what type of poison it was.
I found a link containing a profile of Joseph Michael Maloney. It's an indication that he has never been found.

An interesting footnote I'll throw in concerning this case is someone several months ago was looking for what turned out to be this segment on IMDb. Apparently it was filmed in Boston and his vintage stationwagon was used in the reenactment and he was anxious to have a copy of it for his own use so I hooked him up. Just goes to show all the effort that UM went through in the reenactments to make them seem authentic.
I think there's a decent chance Joseph Maloney is no longer alive and even if he were he's probably still in Ireland but I certainly hope he'll have to answer for his crimes one day.

Thanks guys. :)
Yep, I remember more about this one. He escaped out of jail or some hospital in Rochester and ends up in Ireland and changes his name to 'Michael O'Shea' and gets a visit from the cops.
Crystal, I am very impressed with the authenticity of the reenactments as well. Another reason why UM is such a class act that won't be topped. Perhaps we could have this case featured on Volume 7? ;)
Gotta go now... hafta get to work on a 'concoction' in the basement. :D

Will he have to answer for his crime in a court of law? Doubtful. But he will have to meet his maker, and with something like that on his conscience, he will fry where he belongs.
