View Full Version : Spreading the UK love
Famous Mortimer 11-13-2006, 08:30 AM The UK has a gajillion free satellite channels that might have the occasional rarity that people from the US would be interested in. A while back we got bizarre 1960s satirical alien-invasion-but-not-really mini-classic "The Monitors" (at 5:30 in the morning no less), and there's channels like Zone Horror, Zone Thriller, and a load of channels one step above public access. So if any of you scan the UK listings and see something you'd like, I'd be happy to trade with you for a copy of it. Or, indeed, any shows that are being rebroadcast on British TV. Give me a holler, or if any other UK traders want to post in this thread offering their services to our American cousins.
savageamusement 11-13-2006, 02:32 PM What a great offer---how does one Scan the Uk listings??
I know how to look up US listings, not UK
thepublandlord 11-13-2006, 02:56 PM you can use radiotimes website:
http://www.radiotimes.com/ListingsServlet?event=13&broadcastType=1&jspGridLocation=/jsp/tv_listings_grid.jsp&jspListLocation=/jsp/tv_listings_single.jsp&jspError=/jsp/error.jsp
may not be the best, but at least its a start.
then there's digiguide.
there are channels for which it is extremely difficult, if not impossible, to get a guide for.
Lastdaysofrain 11-13-2006, 03:42 PM I'd love to trade for some DVDs of "Man to Man with Dean Learner"
Well I can't offer my services at the minute as Im have all sorts of technical problems but in the future I will record anything for anyone if I have good notice.
As mortimer mentioned about some shows coming on I thought I would mention that I came accross thirtysomething today on more4 over here. :happyface I was very very happy. If they showed more than one episode a day it would be good and I would try and get the complete set to make a higher quality one.
Idiotjed 11-13-2006, 05:00 PM Always on the lookout for a trader of the UK persuasion to record shows off MTV 2 Europe for me. So, do spread the love my way. :-)
Lamont 11-13-2006, 09:23 PM im open to any series that are on my want list page on my site
OR any others u dont see, shoot me an email
Famous Mortimer 11-14-2006, 08:29 AM Jed, I have a stack of DVDs to send you, which I shall do in the morning with some other fat parcels to the US.
What I'll do is have a flick through channels like Zone Horror, Zone Thriller and the other weirdy ones and post what's coming up. I don't think I could sit through Thirtysomething again, so I'll leave that to another trader but I'm sure there'll be something on.

That is excellent news my good man.
T-Greg 11-14-2006, 05:31 PM If you truly want to spread the UK love, please send me Elizabeth Hurley!
BrownEyedGirl523 11-14-2006, 06:15 PM That's so cool of all of you in UK to offer shows that air there. So many countries outside the US are such a great untapped resource. They often air shows that haven't been seen here in a long time, and many are unedited and unaffected by music rights.
Lamont 11-14-2006, 06:17 PM one place to find some shows is in the middle east!
crazy as it sounds, some place like Lebanon and other nations have AMERICAN STYLE Stations that show old showS!
Famous Mortimer 11-15-2006, 11:39 AM There's a bunch of movie channels in the UK that are free (they have adverts in the middle of the movies, easily edited out with a DVD recorder) and they show some absolute trash. Keep an eye on the listings and marvel at the stuff we get for free. You want bad teen-zombie films? We got 'em!!

Went out with her last night, no bargain. Now, take Olive Oyl, that's a dish.
Harvey
Lastdaysofrain 11-15-2006, 04:15 PM Two shows I'd really love to see
Man to man with Dean Learner and some of the Sci Fi documentaries that are airing this month on BBC 4
If anyone wants to throw them on DVD for me I'd love to trade
Famous Mortimer 11-16-2006, 04:07 AM I can do you the Sci-Fi documentaries, if you let me know when they air. I've not been recording Man To Man because I'm waiting for the proper DVD- the extras on the official Garth Marenghi's Darkplace DVD are fantastic.
