View Full Version : What a Stupid A$$ Statement by Penny in ep-"Stomach Mumps"
TVFactFan 11-08-2006, 07:53 PM Willona Tells Penny to go home because she didn't want her in the Evans Apt. Then Penny says-"You know it's no Fun being home alone all the Time, sometimes I wish I had a Baby"
HUH?????-LOL WTF was she talking about?
Ireneparalegal 11-08-2006, 07:56 PM Young girls who feel "unloved" or "lonely" sometimes think that having a baby, they will be able to have someone to love and get the love they feel they are missing or not getting. That is one reason why so many teen girls end up pregnant. So many of them say "they want someone to love".

But wouldn't a Boyfriend be better-lol
Ireneparalegal 11-08-2006, 07:58 PM It helps, but a boyfriend isn't there 24/7.
Brieannas21 11-08-2006, 08:01 PM Teen girls and young girls think that having babies are all fun and game, like playing with there dolls. That's where that fantasy comes from.
Lamont 11-08-2006, 11:35 PM I will say i think STOMACH MUMPS is perhaps the absolute worst episode of the show

In this day and age, I guess it is stupid. But this was the 70's and 12 yr. olds were pretty naive, compared to the 12 yr. old of today. So I can see Penny believing the stomach mumps story.

She knew what it was to be pregnant, she said it to Flo. So, in a way, yes, it shows that she was stupid. When I was 10 I knew what pregnancy was all abt. To me, if a young girl knows abt pregnancy, she shouldn't be so stupid to believe "stomach mumps"...if a young girl knows nothing abt pregnancy, how one becomes pregnant and so forth, than maybe she can believe such a stupid explanation. It didn't make sense that Penny who obviously knew her friend appeared to be pregnant, is going to believe such a story abt stomach mumps. Young girls in circles talk abt things like that, and I find it hard to believe that Penny and her friends didn't gossip abt this girl Tina.

I think Penny knew what pregancy was also. But I don't think she knew what it actually took to get pregnant. When I was 12 I knew what pregancy was but I didn't know what it all took in order for a woman to get pregnant until I had the sex talk.

I agree with that. I just think that if one knows what a pregnant girl looks like, why would she fall for a "stomach mump" excuse? If my mom or someone told me "stay away from her she has stomach mumps", I would say, "What are you talking abt???? she's pregnant!" I would think Penny would have at least said that to her mom, words to that effect. I knew abt pregnancy before I knew how a woman became pregnant, but I don't see how that would make someone fall for a "mump" excuse. I don't know. Crazy. I could see if Willona told Penny stay away from Tina because she has A DISEASE that is contagious like "mumps" without referencing her stomach or some other communicable disease.

Um, maybe she was letting Willona believe that she knew nothing about pregnancy.......................... Maybe Penny wanted to look naive to Willona, but hiding the fact that she realized that tina looked pregnant, because she didn't want Willona to go up the wall. She could have pretended to Willona that she believed that 'stomach mumps" story just so Willona wouldn;t go crazy.................................(or even more crazy)...........................;)
Ireneparalegal 11-09-2006, 03:07 PM I doubt that. Penny told Florida she thought Tina looked pregnant. So, Penny knows. She may not know how to get pregnant, but she knows abt being/looking pregnant. Also, she wouldn't tell Florida, "To me she looks pregnant...". If Penny was pretending TO NOT KNOW, she would not fall for the "stomach mumps" excuse. She would have just told Flo, "I know Tina is pregnant, I just don't want my mom to know I know, and I don't know why she is telling me abt stomach mumps, that's stupid."

I think kids and naive kids, they tend to believe anything that their parents tell them. I remember when I was about 8 or 9 there was this commercial that use to come on about car insurance, and the lady in the commercial told her husband that she had a surprise, that she went to the OBGYN. After that I asked my Mom was an OBGYN was and she said an eye doctor  and for the longest that's what I thought an eye doctor was called
