View Full Version : Why did these characters have to fall off the face of the earth once Esther Rolle
TVFactFan 11-08-2006, 06:41 PM returned to the show?
Poppo
Head
Cool Breeze
Frank
Mrs. Bookman
I would have liked to see Frank returned atleast if not all
Ireneparalegal 11-08-2006, 06:44 PM What is the point of Frank returning if Willona keeps turning down his proposals? That irked me. MARRY THE MAN DAMNIT!!!!!

I actually liked Frank's character-lol I also thik Head was underrated-"T.K. Cater"
Ireneparalegal 11-08-2006, 06:50 PM I liked Frank too, which is why Willona was a bonehead for not marrying him.
Wasn't TK Carter on another show by this time?

Ireneparalegal 11-08-2006, 06:56 PM It seems 1978 was a busy year for T.K.Carter:
"The Jeffersons" .... Richard (1 episode, 1978)
- Homecoming: Part 2 (1978) TV Episode .... Richard
Corvette Summer (1978) .... Car Wash Employee
... aka The Hot One
Youngblood (1978) .... Bubba Cosell
"Quincy M.E." .... Mojo (1 episode, 1978)
... aka Quincy (International: English title: informal title)
- Crib Job (1978) TV Episode .... Mojo
"The Waltons" .... Jodie Foster (1 episode, 1978)
- The Festival (1978) TV Episode .... Jodie Foster
"Good Times" .... Head (2 episodes, 1977-1978)
- J.J. and the Boss' Daughter (1978) TV Episode .... Head
- Wheels (1977) TV Episode .... Head

Lamont 11-08-2006, 11:37 PM I think they were adding all these new characters to fill the HUGE VOID of esther rolle not being there
once she was brought back, they wanted to focus a LOT of attention on her character and thought the other characters were no longer neededd

You should be old enough to know that I wasn't look for anyone to answer the question.. What you said is what everyone already knows
Brian Damage 11-08-2006, 11:49 PM Unless Willona was finally going to say I DO, Frank no longer served a purpose on the show.
Lamont 11-08-2006, 11:52 PM well the show had added SO MANY characters and the focus was all over the place--- the show was like 10 shows in 1
one week it might be about Penny and her silly problems
one week might focus on Bookman
one week might be about Keith and Thelma
the show REALLY needed to streamline and get back to the basics
and these characters were just making it too much
(i personally would have LOVED to have seen willona get married and her and penny leave the show so they could be written out!)

I would have liked Florida to meet the awesome Threesome-lol
snl 70s show fan 11-09-2006, 12:08 AM I would have liked Florida to meet the awesome Threesome-loli agree i really liked popo head and cool breeze
Lamont 11-09-2006, 12:25 AM looking back at it decades later
we can see what SHOULD have been done
but at the time, they had a choice to make and it seemed like the logical one
hindsight.... shows it wasnt
comedyfreak 11-09-2006, 06:19 AM Esther Rolle didn't like the JJ character's foolishness, so I don't think she would have liked the awesome foursome. Their little song was kind of silly.

I also recall him being on this short-lived sitcom. He played some kind of genie. I can't remember the name.

Exactly! Thank you. All it did was point out that Willona had more excuses (to not get married) than a man going to jail.

That was the show called "Just Our Luck" from 1983, I finally found 2 eps of that Show last year
88survivor 11-10-2006, 04:39 AM They should have called this "Here Today, Gone Tommorow" characters because some disappear without a trace.
