The first 3 seasons she was obnoxious, preachy and selfish. I know you all will disagree, but this is something I observed. After James got killed off, I kind of felt sorry for her. I know she was less preachy, still wanted things to go her way, but she seemed to back off a little. But I preferred the Florida in seasons 4 and 6. Especially 6. She was alright with me by then.

I respectfully disagree. I hate the way Florida ended up after season 3. She became too self absorbed. IMHO

Florida was not Preachy
she just had strong morals and knew what was best for the moral fiber of her family

The Peachiness was the BEST thing about the Florida character

Florida seemed lost without James after he passed. I liked the Florida during the first three seasons. When Esther Rolle came back in season 6 the character of Florida Evans was not the same. All the backstage tension and strife filtered into her performance as well as the cast.
