This is my first time posting on this board. When I was in grade school Gimme A Break was one of my favorite shows. It was on weekday evenings after Diff'rent Strokes on one of our local Chicagoland stations and I never missed it. NBC was still showing new episodes at this time as well. Around 1989 they stopped showing the series until another local station (Me-Tv) picked it up in late September. So, of course, I decided to watch it again. Since 17 years had passsed, I had forgotten much about the show. I remembered a few jokes here and there, but the only episode I really could recall as a whole was "Mom's Birthday". And the only characters' names I could remember were Nell and Samantha's. Sam was always my favorite character watching as a kid because she was the closest to my age.
Over the past month and a half I have really been enjoying the episodes. So much so that I went out and bought the first season DVD set. Even though I had remembered how funny Gimme A Break is, I had forgotten how touching it can me. Of the episodes I have seen so far my favorite is "Mom's Birthday". That is such a moving episode. That is probably why it was one I've always remembered. It is especially touching when the family is watching the home movies and Katie, Julie and Sam sing happy birthday to their mom. My favorite character is still Samantha. Lara Jill Miller had great comic timing. :)
