View Full Version : My '69 Cadillac Used In TV Series... behind-the-scenes-photos
Fleet 11-04-2006, 03:58 AM Last week, a motion picture car locator said that my '69 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham was chosen for a scene in the TV series "Cold Case." The filming was done today (Friday) for a one-day shoot. The episode it will appear in is called "Forever Blue" and is supposed to air in mid-December. For the episode, my car is "owned" by a drug dealer. A police car pulls up behind him and he is "arrested" while standing at the rear of my car. The camera then shows the inside (rear compartment) of the car as the illegal drugs are taken out of it.
It will be really fun to see my Cadillac on TV! :) Here are some photos which the car locator took at the scene in downtown Los Angeles. The year is supposed to be 1968. (I guess late '68.)
Karen* 11-04-2006, 04:12 AM Sweet! And that is one awesome car.

Thats a bad ass car. Is this the same one you were telling us about before when there was a casting call for Caddy's? Or is this something else?
Janice 11-04-2006, 01:14 PM Thats a bad ass car. Is this the same one you were telling us about before when there was a casting call for Caddy's? Or is this something else?
That's right. I think that was for a movie about the Zodiac killers...or something.
Anyhow Fleet, that's great, and I love those pictures. Please be sure to let us know when it's being aired as I don't watch the show.
How do car locators know how to find you? Does your car have an agent, lol. Is your car in a database of available vintage cars?

Yes, it's the same car which was used for the filming of "Zodiac Killer," which has since been renamed "Chronicles" according to the movie car locator.
Mr. Stefani 11-04-2006, 04:49 PM do they pay you for this?
Hollow 11-04-2006, 04:52 PM geez where do you keep all of your cars?

Okay. I hope I'll know of the episode before it airs. I should be able to.
A photo of my car is on file and the producer of the show picked mine. He was looking for a black Cadillac.
Here is the car locator's website: http://www.laurelspixcars.com
Fleet 11-04-2006, 04:55 PM do they pay you for this?
Yes, $300 and they filled the gas tank.

Thats pretty sweet
Fleet 11-04-2006, 04:59 PM geez where do you keep all of your cars?
On a remote mountaintop.
Okay, more like one in the garage and two in the driveway. I only have 3 cars (the '70 Sedan de Ville was sold a few weeks ago).

rusyd 11-04-2006, 07:26 PM That is pretty cool. Congrats to you and your very well kept car!:)
Dr. John Becker 11-04-2006, 08:10 PM That's an awesome car, Fleet. Like Janice said, I don't normally watch Cold Case, but I'll catch the episode with your Caddy.
BTW, have you ever had problem with rust as your car ages? How do you prevent it?
Janice 11-04-2006, 08:11 PM Yes, it's the same car which was used for the filming of "Zodiac Killer," which has since been renamed "Chronicles" according to the movie car locator.
Is that a tv or theater movie? Do you know when it's being released?

I don't watch the show, either. But I will start recording it every Sunday starting in about two weeks so I don't miss the episode with my car. I should be able to find that episode in a TV guide before it airs. Especially if the title is listed.
Actually, the '69 and '70 Cadillacs are prone to rust on the bottom rear part of both front fenders, just in front of the doors. It's because the drain holes clog up easily and water collects there. Because my '69 is garaged, and was garaged for most of its life, there is no rust on it. But my former '70 Sedan de Ville and my family's '70 Coupe de Ville did have rust in that area.
It can be prevented by drilling a few holes to let water drain. But remember, out here in semi-arid California, rust isn't too much of a problem.
Fleet 11-04-2006, 10:02 PM Is that a tv or theater movie? Do you know when it's being released?
It is supposed to be a theater movie. The car locator did tell me that when she has information on a release date, she will call me.
I am going to post a few more "behind-the-scene" photos in a little while.
Janice 11-04-2006, 10:16 PM I wonder where they get the old cars that they crash and destroy in the movies?
Fleet 11-04-2006, 10:35 PM I wonder where they get the old cars that they crash and destroy in the movies?
I did ask Laurel (the movie car locator) that last year. I'm trying to remember her answer. I think she said cars that are wrecked usually come from wrecking yards and even places which have cars for that purpose. Remember, many of them don't run- they are pulled by another car with a cable and then released.
One thing I found out for sure... when a car is used in a movie (such as mine) it is never harmed because they go by the script. If a car is to be damaged, then they would not use a car like mine in the first place (too expensive, they would have to pay for the damages on a $5,000 car compared to a $100 junk car!).
Fleet 11-05-2006, 04:27 AM Here are three more photos.
Photo #1 is a nice left-front view.
Photo #2 shows a cameraman probably checking the lighting inside the car.
Photo #3 is a general view with the left rear door open for some reason.
Penny Lane 11-05-2006, 05:02 PM Wow! That's really cool Fleet!
Fleet 12-01-2006, 04:13 AM An update...
According to the CBS website, the episode in which my car will be seen in (Forever Blue) will air this coming Sunday. :)
ponytail 12-01-2006, 06:55 AM I don't watch the show either, but I'll surely watch it Sunday night.
gilligan fanatic 12-01-2006, 11:03 AM Neat, I am deffinetly going to record that
Fleet 12-01-2006, 05:02 PM Someone on another message board said he thinks he saw a quick look of my car and a police car behind it during the commercials while he was watching CSI a few days ago.
I'm glad they actually used what they filmed of my car. You never can tell. A lot of times scenes end up on the cutting room floor.
FOLrocks1 12-01-2006, 11:30 PM That's so cool.
Janice 02-28-2007, 11:57 PM Fleet, the movie, Zodiac, opens this week. Is your Caddy in that movie?

Fleet 03-01-2007, 12:10 AM That should be the one. I'll contact Laurel (the car locater) and ask her.
Dutabi84 03-01-2007, 12:25 AM Yes, $300 and they filled the gas tank.
Nice. I should ask the entertainment industry if they could use a crappy Eclipse in any future shows or movies.

 You never know. They may do a reunion show of Murder She Wrote or something.

Actually, sometimes a car is turned down because it looks too good. So you may as well try!
