View Full Version : Can't Understand why Terri didn't mention where she was going until the last 5 mins
TVFactFan 11-03-2006, 06:34 PM of the Finale-lol All during the episode, you never heard anything about where she was headed until Furley goes up to her and said-"Why are you leaving your job at the hospital? The Finale was basically all about Jack and Vicky and Janet and phillip
Ireneparalegal 11-03-2006, 07:06 PM I think it was edited out. I could almost swear that she mentioned it earlier than that.

No it wasn't edited out, i watched the ABC version and the first time she mentions anything about Hawaii is when Furley asked her why she was leaving her job

Yea I always thought that was strange. Another example of how the writers were more concerned with setting up TAC instead of getting a proper final to TC.

Not only that, but it's clear from interviews with the cast and company on E! True Hollywood Story: Three's Company that the producers treated Priscilla Barnes like crap. They showed her less respect than they showed Joyce DeWitt and Joyce wasn't treated like a queen. I guess that's why Terri's closure in Three's Company looked like an afterthought because it basically was. Both the actress and the character were hardly a priority.

You make a very good point
BensonFan 11-06-2006, 01:59 PM And how convenient too. She just happened to decide to go to Hawaii when Janet just happened to get married and Jack just happened to find a serious girlfriend to move in with.
Man, I wish my life could be so organized. :p
comedyfreak 11-09-2006, 06:37 AM They should have had Terri stay in the apartment, maybe have Larry move in as a new roomate.
Adamantium 11-20-2006, 12:26 AM It's my opinion that Terri decided to change her life and move to Hawaii because Jack was moving out to live with Vicky and Janet was married to Phillip. She had to do something. Either stay in the apartment or move on. She chose to move on.
I'm not defending the producers for the finale, I'm just trying to make some sense out of it, lol.

They could have had the Terri character move someone in LA too like Jack and Janet-lol Where the hell did that Hawaii crap come from?-lol

Perhaps it's because they hadn't ruled out some of the cast from Three's Company occasionally making guest appearances on Three's a Crowd. Sure, there weren't many, but that's because it only lasted one season. Like Frasier, I believe the former cast would've visited John's spinoff occasionally.
With Priscilla Barnes, she stated she hated working on the show, saying it was the worst 3 years of her life. The producers were particularly disrespectful of her and both parties probably wanted nothing more to do with each other once the parent series wrapped up. So if Terri is sent off to Hawaii, no one would ever expect to see her again. Everyone involved would know that the series finale of Three's Company would be Terri's last appearance.
With Janet, Mr. Furley and others, yes, they didn't appear either, but I think they would have had the spinoff lasted longer. The door was open for them to make an appearance if the right episode idea came along (and assuming the actors would've agreed to come back). Sadly, the show didn't last long enough for that to happen.
So that's why I think they chose to send Terri off to Hawaii. It was to make sure the door was closed to her ever appearing again. It's too bad though since she deserved better treatment. She helped the show recover from the loss of Chrissy/Suzanne Somers but they were notoriously known for not appreciating anyone other than John Ritter.

Kind of strange that Don Knotts never made an appearance

Again, perhaps the right story idea wasn't presented in the first season. Besides, his counterpart in the new show was already present (Mr. Bradford) so there was no immediate need. Or maybe Don Knotts simply was unavailable or unwilling, who knows? But since he found out that Jack wasn't gay, it robbed a lot of his character's raison d'etre. What little conflict there was left to be had by his character was filled by, again, Mr. Bradford. Having Mr. Furley around with no purpose would've been redundant. Again, it depends on the story idea. I think the producers wanted to solidify their current cast first before revisiting old ones. Unfortunately, it didn't last long enough for the show to do so.

stella 11-25-2006, 03:45 AM Also from my observations, after the wedding scene, the next scene was where the trio started packing up. There was some discussion about Janet and Phillip's honeymoon, so obviously some time must have passed by. The exact time frame was unknown, but it's possible that while Jack and Terri were alone in the apartment, Jack told her that he would move out too so Terri decided that it was time for her to move on too, so she decided to move to Hawaii.
