Yup it is 100% fact. I am sad already
Ireneparalegal 10-31-2006, 05:36 PM THEE BEST GAME SHOW HOST EVER!!!!!!!!
Brent88 10-31-2006, 05:38 PM WOW... this is quite unexpected. The show will never be the same without him. :(
80sTrivia 10-31-2006, 05:41 PM I agree, Brent... Bob Barker and The Price Is Right is such an institution, it will be hard to find a proper replacement for him...
friendsfan77 10-31-2006, 05:56 PM The only two people I liked as equally as Bob... well the first, Bill Cullen, who hosted the original version on NBC and ABC from 1956-65, died 16 years ago (and retired a few years before that), and the second, Tom Kennedy, who hosted a weekly nighttime show from 1985-86, is retired from show business. They better pick somebody good.. they've got REALLY big shoes to fill. I hope I can attend a taping before the season is over.
mriggles 10-31-2006, 06:20 PM June 7th 2007 will be the scheduled taping of his last show to air a week or so later.
GolfDude 10-31-2006, 06:51 PM rumors i heard was that todd newton (the guy who did whammy) on GSN would be barker's replacement.. i heard this a long time ago...
and im sure theyll make his final show a prime time special.. no way theyd have just a normal episode to end his reign..
EighteenMinutes 10-31-2006, 06:55 PM no way theyd have just a normal episode to end his reign..
I agree completely. You can't have a guy like Bob do this stuff for 50 years and send him out in the middle of the morning while a majority of the America is at work.
No doubt he'll be sent out in style!

Cbs & fremantle media have been looking into bob's replacement for 3 years now. You will be surprised at some of the names being considered. TOm Bergeron of dancing with the stars/ americans funniest home videos/hollywood squares. Also Todd newton as mentioned & finally Rich Fields, the shows current announcer.
snl 70s show fan 10-31-2006, 07:31 PM this is a day that all price is right and bob barker fans have been derading in the back of our minds we knew this day was going to come but we sure never wanted it too we all grew up with bob barker. he has been there for all of us to make us feel better we we were sick or sad and so many of us who watched him as kids are now old enough to have kids of there own and the kids watch him and enjoy him s much as we did growing up. have a great retirement bob you have more than earned it. and thank you for being there for all of us.

There was another host who did the nighttime version. But for the life of me, I can't remember his name. He also hosted other shows. DAMN IT!!! THIS IS GOING TO BUG ME NOW!!! Help, I know someone knows who the other host was...

Yeah, it was very 1970's/Gene Rayburn Match Game PM.

DENNIS JAMES!!!!!! I knew I'd figure it out...here is some info on him:

friendsfan77 10-31-2006, 08:58 PM Yeah, it was very 1970's/Gene Rayburn Match Game PM.
A number of game shows back then had that signature microphone.. a few that come to mind Perry Card Sharks, Trivia Trap, Double Dare (CBS), and the aforementioned TPIR and MG. I've also seen Dick Clark use an EMC once each on $25k and $100k Pyramid, and his small mic had a long cord too.
Scoobiedoo30 10-31-2006, 09:07 PM Man I cant belive Bob Barker is Retireing I am just wondering when did Bob Barker take over as Host of The Price is Right.

Dynomite 10-31-2006, 09:44 PM Just remember! This coming December, Bob Barker turns 83 years old! 50 years in television, with nearly 35 of those years hosting The Price is Right on both CBS and in syndication for 4 years(1976 to 1980). The fact that he's finally retiring shouldn't really surprise anyone, considering his age. All we can say for Bob Barker is thanks for the memories! Now, as far as who'll succeed Bob Barker as host of The Price is Right, I believe the show's next host will be Todd Newton. Tom Bergeron could also be in the mix, but he's busy with both Dancing with the Stars and America's Funniest Home Videos, so I really don't see how he has time to fit a third show into his schedule. If Todd Newton does become the next host of The Price is Right, only time will tell how audiences can handle Bob Barker's potential successor. Out of respect for Bob Barker, CBS should consider a televised special to honor his 50+ years in television, and that special should include many of his friends and collegues, including Larry King, Chuck Norris, Adam Sandler, David Letterman, Alex Trebek, Pat Sajak, Chuck Woolery, among others. As Bob would say at the end of every Price is Right telecast, "Help control the pet population, have your pets spayed or neutered!" The game show world will forever be grateful for Bob Barker as he heads toward his retirement at the season's end, and I sincerely believe television should give him a proper send off when that time comes. TPIR 4-Ever!

I know that Newton hosted the PRICE IS RIGHT DVD, and was entertaining.
God, how unexpected. Bob Barker is a true legend, and is irreplacable. Such a warm-hearted, good-spirited guy, and a true animal activist devoted to his cause. It is an honor whenever I'm able to watch Mister Barker do what he does best: make people have a good time, win or lose. Anyone who has a fan base ranging from infants to senior citizens is someone special, and that's just the word to describe Bob. May God Bless You, Sir, and Your Family.
Scoobiedoo30 10-31-2006, 09:50 PM Bill Cullen was The Host of The Price is Right befor Bob Barker took over as The Price is Right.
DLevine2 10-31-2006, 10:29 PM :( I'm going to miss Bob Barker when he retires in June 2007. I hope somebody good will be the host to take over his place of "The Price Is Right". I hope they will have "PLINKO" after he retires on TPIR.
TVFactFan 10-31-2006, 10:31 PM June 7th 2007 will be the taping of his last show to air a week or so later.
Well I hope that's the end of the show because I can't see anyone else being the host of The Price is Right
AaronHandy3 10-31-2006, 10:32 PM I agree, Brent... Bob Barker and The Price Is Right is such an institution, it will be hard to find a proper replacement for him...
Nobody but nobody "replaces" Robert William Barker. Such a venerable game show icon as he can only be succeeded. Like Rather did for Cronkite. Like Leno did for Carson. This, as Cronkite stated, is but a transition, a passing of the baton.
mriggles 10-31-2006, 10:55 PM There was another host who did the nighttime version. But for the life of me, I can't remember his name. He also hosted other shows. DAMN IT!!! THIS IS GOING TO BUG ME NOW!!! Help, I know someone knows who the other host was...
His name was doug davidson..Dennis James also hosted a version of the show as well
mriggles 10-31-2006, 10:58 PM Well I hope that's the end of the show because I can't see anyone else being the host of The Price is Right
At this point the plan is to keep the show running. THe show is a money making machine for CBS & fremantle media. IT will keep going, for how long..time will only tell. I have some connections in LA, so I am going to utilize them & get myself in the studio for that day.
musicradio77 11-01-2006, 12:23 AM I'm going to miss Bob Barker, he is still my favorite host of "The Price is Right". I hope he will look forward to his retirement coming in June of next year. I used to watch "The Price Is Right" since I was a kid when Bob Barker's hair was dark. I'm very sad to see him go until the end of June, it will be his final show. Good luck to all the people and all of the Barker Beauties. I'm going to miss him. :(

The host of the nightime version wa Dennis James, who ended each episode by saying "Don't miss the show next week because if you do we'll miss you."
Scoobiedoo30 11-01-2006, 01:32 AM what Year was Dennis James The Host of The Price is Right
GrandGame1440 11-01-2006, 03:56 AM Wow...I'm just as speechless as everyone else. What an amazing career he has had. This season is going to be must-see by every means. I'm not trying to do a plug for myself, but I would love for some of you to come to my Yahoo! group and tell us your favorite moment or memory of Bob on the show...

what Year was Dennis James The Host of The Price is Right
1972-77.
APPLEI 11-01-2006, 07:17 AM I think Tom Kennedy hosted the night time version of TPIR in the mid 80's for one season
but i think Chuck Woolery would be an excellent choice to take over hosting after Bob Barker retires
TV DVD Fan 11-01-2006, 09:06 AM I could see Chuck doing it, but he's not as good nowadays as when he hosted GREED; it seems to me that it would be too much for him to do anything else but GSN at this point.
But he probably would make for an entertaining host. Call me crazy, but I could even see Regis Philbin doing a nighttime edition of TPIR.
mstewart 11-01-2006, 11:28 AM The following hosts did The Price Is Right other than Bill Cullen and Bob Barker:
Dennis James (nighttime version): 1972-1977
Tom Kennedy (daily syndicated version): 1985-1986
Doug Davidson (daily syndicated version): 1994-1995
Out of those three hosts Doug Davidson was the worse of them. Tom and Dennis ran neck to neck on the job they did on the show.
Wow!!! Bob is retiring. Watching the show this season his energy is not the same and his patience with contestants is not quite there. We're talking an institution and it is good that he is going out on top with a good memory of him.
I can see Chuck Woolery taking his place but I do see them getting someone younger. I can see a major overhaul done on the show with the set and the theme music.
Scoobiedoo30 11-01-2006, 11:35 AM I remember When Doug Davidson was the host of The Price is Right I watched Doug Davisaon edition of The rice is Right weekday's at 4:30 pm on WVUE 8
Scoobiedoo30 11-01-2006, 12:17 PM I have a Question is ob Barker Retireing befor His Contract is up with The Price is Right
Ireneparalegal 11-01-2006, 12:34 PM I've always loved Tom Kennedy, too bad he is retired. He lives here in our county. I believe he has a beach home here.
I didn't know this abt Tom until I was doing some research. He is the brother of a former game show host, Jack Narz. Tom changed his last name so he wouldn't be confused with his brother. Also, Tom Kennedy and Bill Cullen are somewhat related. Bill Cullen is Jack's brother-in-law.
here is some info on Tom Kennedy's brother:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0621573/bio
friendsfan77 11-01-2006, 01:14 PM I can see a major overhaul done on the show with the set and the theme music.
IMO, that's the LAST thing that needs to be done. A new host is enough to get people talking and for people to have doubts. Music and set changes may be minor, but a whole bunch of tweaking like that is NOT necessary. Enough overhauling changes were made in 1972. I mean, look at Doug Davidson's version of TPIR. A carbon copy of the same exact then-current airing version with lone the exception of a different host it was indeed NOT.
Scoobiedoo30 11-01-2006, 01:25 PM I always's Throught Bob Barker would be apart of The rice is Right until 2016
Ireneparalegal 11-01-2006, 01:34 PM I always's Throught Bob Barker would be apart of The rice is Right until 2016
The poor man would be 93 years old...if he even lived that long. If the man wants to retire, that is his decision, and his fans should respect that decision. He deserves to live out his remaining years doing what he wants to do.
Mr. Television 11-01-2006, 01:45 PM Very sad news. I've watched Bob Barker since I was a kid. I remember when he used to host Truth Or Consequences. Bob is a legend. I can't imagine anyone replacing him.
mriggles 11-01-2006, 01:49 PM I have a Question is ob Barker Retireing befor His Contract is up with The Price is Right
Bob recently signed a 5 year contract to continue to host the price is right. Bob has an out in his contract that allows him to call it quits after every year if he so desires. The conditions of the contract require Bob to let Fremantle Media & cbs know by December 31st of every calendar year if he intends to continue or call it a career.
This has been the way he has handled his contracts since about season number 22. He has signed " 5year contracts" Each of them had language in the contract saying he could opt out as long as the proper notice was given.
If anyone has any questions about the show, let me know, I have been privilged to many visits to the show & have become very friendly with alot of the people on the show, so I may know the answer to a question you may have about any aspect of the show.
Ireneparalegal 11-01-2006, 02:17 PM I remember when I was in grade school, one of my sister's close friends was a contestant on the show and she won BOTH showcases. She won a trip to London, various appliances, a car, furniture...so much stuff, she had to sell some of it. She said that Bob was the nicest person she had ever met in her life. I remember seeing pics of her with Bob. I was lucky I got to see the show because the day it aired, it was Good Friday and we were off from school that day. Too bad there weren't VCR's around then.

Nobody can replace BOB, he is the best there is, was & ever will be. Someone will have the undaunting task of trying to fill his shoes. Good luck to that individual.

mriggles 11-01-2006, 02:52 PM How Many Game Show's did ob Barker Host befor The rice is Right
Bob was the host of A show called Truth or consequences from 1956-1975 , well before my time, He began as host of the price is right in september of 1972. September 4,1972 to be exact.
Before his stint on truth or consequences he was a radio DJ among other things, but his wife The late Dorothy Jo saw Bob on truth or consequences & said to him that this was what your meant to do, this is what your good at.Boy was she right.
friendsfan77 11-01-2006, 03:58 PM Bob also guest hosted Tattletales a couple times.

Scoobiedoo30 11-01-2006, 04:45 PM I wish I could have seen Bob arker on Tattletles in 1975 and 1977.
Dynomite 11-01-2006, 05:50 PM Very sad news. I've watched Bob Barker since I was a kid. I remember when he used to host Truth Or Consequences. Bob is a legend. I can't imagine anyone replacing him.
No host will ever replace Bob Barker on The Price is Right. You don't replace him, you succeed him-big difference! At the same time while he was contemplating his retirement, Bob Barker might have been busy grooming someone like Todd Newton to eventually succeed him. It's called passing the torch from one host to another. The Price is Right will go on, and I wouldn't be surprised if it's Bob, himself, who names his successor. A replacement would have to know everything about the show in little time. A successor is someone who is being groomed to eventually take over. At nearly 83 years of age, it's really time for Bob Barker to retire, and I believe he feels his eventual successor, whether it's Todd Newton or someone else, is ready to carry The Price is Right. No one ever said making a transition to a succeeding host was going to be easy, but how do you think Bob is going to feel if he doesn't have a successor in place to pick up where he left off and carry the show? For all we know, Bob Barker might introduce his successor on his final TPIR telecast. Remember, no host will replace Bob Barker, but he might have someone like Todd Newton ready to succeed him. As the old saying goes, "The show must go on!"
Ireneparalegal 11-01-2006, 06:12 PM I remember when people said that the late announcer of TPIR, Johnny Olsen, couldn't be replaced when he passed away. It's not abt replacing people, but who is capable of doing a job that people will love. It's abt being unique.
friendsfan77 11-01-2006, 07:42 PM People said the same thing about Rod Roddy also when he passed away. I'm sure people said the same when Bob was first tapped to host in 1972, since Bill Cullen was known for hosting TPIR originally. It's a cycle really, and it continues with each passing generation of hosts and people.
Scoobiedoo30 11-01-2006, 08:00 PM I wish GSN would get The Right's to The Price is Right again

Amen to that brother
Scoobiedoo30 11-01-2006, 11:24 PM Maybe GSN will start airing The Price is Right once Bob Barker once Retires.
friendsfan77 11-02-2006, 08:25 AM According to GSN president Rich Cronin in 2004, they'd be airing it now if CBS would let them.
Scoobiedoo30 11-03-2006, 04:51 PM so are saying CBS Stoped GSN From airing The Price is Right.
George Yurich 11-12-2006, 08:51 AM Who cares if Barker is going to retire? Good riddence to bad rubbish. The way Barker has treated the dolls that show off the prizes is reprehensible. Barker fired a doll because she was a little overweight. Barker needs some psychological help.

George Yurich 11-15-2006, 07:48 AM I sure will miss Bob Barker coming out The Doors on The Price is Right
Why will you miss Barker after the things that Barker has done to the various models on that game show? Barker had one of the models fired for being a little overweight and Barker fired other models for no apparent reason and Barker had sexual relations with another model and then Barker fired that model.
GrandGame1440 11-15-2006, 09:57 PM Bob claims they offered Holly (the one you claim was fired for being overweight) a retirement package, and Dian (the one who he has relations with) actually left on her own, she had a nice goodbye show even. George Yurich 11-18-2006, 09:27 AM We care; if you don't like him, start a thread of your own. We're here to honor Bob Barker, so take your BS somewhere else.
Why do you guys want to honor a pervert like Barker is? The man fires models for no apparent reason other then the models being fat.
GrandGame1440 11-18-2006, 06:57 PM Yurich, do you bother reading other's posts? ........
"Bob claims they offered Holly (the one you claim was fired for being overweight) a retirement package, and Dian (the one who he has relations with) actually left on her own, she had a nice goodbye show even. Before you post next time, please get your facts straightened out."
JulieSomoski 11-18-2006, 08:51 PM In my opinion, CBS should just end the The Price is Right When Bob Barker leaves. I mean, ratings for the show will probably go down, and things would just be different. For running as long as it did, The Price is Right should be given the proper treatment, and end its run,
As a new host is being decided, I thing Chuck Woolery should host. Lingo is returning for its sixth(and probably last) season on GSN, and Chuck should go right to TPIR after that. I wouldn't see Tom Burgeron for the job.
George Yurich 11-23-2006, 08:42 AM Yurich, do you bother reading other's posts? ........

And you guys believe what Barker states? Barker is a preveracator. There was an episode on Entertainment Channel a couple of years ago of a program called E True Hollywood Story and it was about Barker and they stated on that program that Barker fired Holly for being overweight and that Barker fired Dian after they had sexual intercourse.
TV DVD Fan 11-23-2006, 01:36 PM It's not our business really about his personal life... that's the problem with Hollywood; nobody knows when they're delving too deep into a person's life. We're here to honor what a great game show host he was and he is admirable because who else do you know that would take time out of every SINGLE show to promote such a worthy cause as having your dog spayed or neutered? If you don't like him, don't post on this thread--- it's that simple. Just stay out of this if all you want to do is rain on our parade.
AaronHandy3 11-23-2006, 06:04 PM George's bitterness against Bob aside, I just had an interesting epiphany: do you think Bob's retirement may precipitate a return of classic Price Is Right repeats to GSN?
Or does Freemantle still have control over that?
George Yurich 11-24-2006, 08:01 AM It's not our business really about his personal life... that's the problem with Hollywood; nobody knows when they're delving too deep into a person's life. A great game show host? Barker is a preveracator and a moral degenerate for engaging in fornication. Why are you guys sticking up for preveracation and moral degeneracy?
GrandGame1440 11-24-2006, 08:19 PM Ok, Holly MAY have been fired, but I have an audio file of Dian saying goodbye on her last show, if someone will upload it, or if anyone wants to hear it, let me know.
