I don't hear people talk about him much. And I think he was a talented guy. He died too young.

I absolutely love her music. I have all her cds except Cookie: The Anthropological Mixtape, which I recently ordered.

I've got everything except for that instrumental album she did "Dance of the Infidels." After Prince and Stevie Wonder, she's my next favorite musician/recording artist. I've been a fan of hers since "Plantation Lullabies." I actually met her just walking down the street here in NYC a few years ago and told her I was a big fan, didn't ask for an autograph though.

"Cookie" is one of her best. As much as I liked the fact that she showed some versatility with "Bitter," I really like it when she gets funky, and Cookie has some of her funkiest tracks.

Two that come to mind are Lou Rawls and Karen Carpenter; both of whom have passed on. They were considered good singers, but I think they were especially gifted. Once I heard Lou Rawls sing the National Anthem at a ball game; it was the best rendition by any celebrity that I'd ever heard! And if you really listen to Karen Carpenter's voice, it is so 'on-key' and clear--in every one of her songs.

I completely agree with you about Karen Carpenter, Yooch; I love her voice. Unfortunately, I've never heard any Lou Rawls songs.

I'll take care of that for you. ;) Lou Rawls: One of the classics (http://www.fileden.com/files/2006/9/24/237978/Lou%20Rawls-Youll%20Never%20Find%20Another%20Love%20Like%20Mine.mp3)

Sharop, Lou Rawls was an African-American R&B/jazz singer, most famous for "You'll never find a love like mine" and "Lady Love", but he did other standards like "Georgia on my Mind", plus some Christmas songs. He had a deep rich voice with great range and was well respected also for his charity work. He died earlier this year.

The Cookie cd came today and I'm totally feeling it! I love her Bitter cd but I find some of the songs depressing, yet I still play it all the time. LOL

Nicolette Larson

She only released four albums (between 1978 and 1982) and her only top 10 hit was her 1978 cover of Neil Young's "Lotta Love". She died in 1997. Even though she never became a commercial sucsess, I think that she had an amazing voice and recorded four really good albums.

I agree with all of you on this.

Lou Rawls has so many great songs, that never get played. He has a great version of "On A Clear Day." He did a lot of blues, but my favorite two songs that he performed were "Love Is A Hurtin Thing" and "It Was A Very Good Year." If your interested check out some of his live CD's he had a tremendous voice. My dad's has his collection of albums and I grew up listen, and not really appreciating them until I got older. Lou is worth listening to.

I also have to add my favorite Steve Perry I think is really under appreciated as a singer, forget the songs if you don't like them, just listen to the voice, so clear and beautiful, the main reason I became a Journey fan was because of that voice. Steve would have been great as a Broadway singer in a musical.

The only song I've heard her in was the duet with John Mellencamp in '94. She sounds like she has talent but I haven't heard her anywhere else.

Hey, Jrnygrl, just curious, but if Steve were to do Broadway, what character(s) would you like to see him perform? I am a huge fan of a vocalist named James LaBrie who sings for Dream Theater among other things(by the way, Steve is a huge influence) and there was a similar question posed to him recently on his message board about if he were to do Broadway, what would he want to do. I don't know why Judas from 'Jesus Christ Superstar' popped into my head. I would love to see James do that. Anyhoo, what do see Steve doing?

I think he would have been great as the Phantom, in Phantom of the Opera. If you listen to the song "Mother, Father" Steve's range is so powerful. A younger Steve I would have love to see him as Tony or Bernardo in West Side Story
