JamesAnthony, I saw the ep you were taking about tonight (Blazing Jeffersons) when George thought Lionel burned down his store for bad wiring. So Lionel storms out the APT because George didn't believe he wasn't the one who was the caused the fire and George says-"What the hell is he so mad about that N*gger burnd down my store" ???-lol That was a very ODD GEORGE JEFFERSON MOMENT. He called his son a N*GGER????????????????????????????

Keep watching season 8 and tell me if there's anything as outstanding as that for the rest of that season. I say no. Like I said before, when Mike Evans cut out this show really lost something. The only year 8 episode after that one that I thought was really good is when the Whittendale's dog jumps off the balcony. The others range from Ok to watchable to not that great. But hey- it was 3rd for the season.

It's a little throwback to ol' school George in this new 1980's period when he mellowed out some.
I was taken aback a little too knowing the period the episode aired in.

Sherman Helmsley wanted George to mellow on some of that racial stuff as the 1980's came about I remember hearing somewhere in an interview.
He didn't feel it was right to hate whites so much after that long associating with them living there. Plus Jenny & Lionel's marriage probably smoothed out some things.

In the black community some use the 'N' word as a checkmate. It's to keep one from getting too full of himself & out of touch. Like it's bringing folks back down to planet earth so to speak. Don't never forget & get your head blown up, son. That kind of thing.

Also in anger the "natural" comes out in people & they don't filter themselves.
It was a "Who does he think he is?!" kind of moment.
George was willing to protect his son thinking he caused the damage & Lionel's reaction was baffling to him.
Because it was George's livelihood that went up in smoke so HE shoulda been the one clowning.

And thus it came out.

"What the hell is HE so mad about? That n*gger burned down my store!"

George ain't that far removed from the streets even being in the penthouse with his Botany 500's all those years.
