Anyone else with me, or am I in the minority? I thought Valerie was a more likeable character than Sandy (not that Sanday was bad), but I liked the Sandy episodes better. Ya gotta love those "teen issues." I thought the episodes with Valerie were, at times, a little too Leave It To Beaver-ish.

The Valerie episodes was good. My favorite episode was with Mike's friend Skip, that happened to be Valerie Harper's final episode in the second season, and Valerie was hilarious with her biting sarcasm. It reminded me so much of Rhoda.

When I watch comedy I want to be entertained not preached at or given a sociology lesson as many sitcoms tried to do today. Norman Lear opened the door for that.

Hi msstewart. It looks like you and I are at total opposite ends of the spectrum, I'm afraid. I meant to mention before how the last Valerie episode -- the one where Uncle Skip visits -- is maybe my least favorite one of all. His character was so annoying and the story line with him & his new bride (who was getting advice from Valerie) was just dull, IMO. My wife, whom I introdiced to the show, also comented how she really didn't like that one very much. Also, I'm a pretty big Norman Lear fan, so we might not agree there either. I do agree that we want to be entertained when watching a sitcom. But, there can be something very entertaining (at least for me) about "very special" episodes of sitcoms where they try to tackle serious issues.

BTW I am a big Norman Lear fan. I grew up on his sitcoms and to this day love them. What I am talking about is wanting to laugh and not feeling like I am watching drama and comedy mix in half an hour. The storyline with Uncle Skip visiting and Valerie giving his bride advice is not original but Valerie Harper's edge was hilarious. I did like the episode in the same season Community Theatre. Val was a hottie in that episode. Plus I always had a crush on Valerie Harper. It was too bad what happened to her and the show. I did enjoyed Sandy Duncan. It was a good TV comeback for her.
