I'm going to transfer episodes of "Silver Spoons" from my hard drive to DVD's. I've noticed that the order they originally aired in(acording to www.TV.com) is different than the order they aired in syndication, or Comcast's "ON DEMAND".

What order should I put them in: order of airing or production order?

there was an episode that has shown completely out of order, due to special show being aired, and the pulled the normal episode, and aired it much later in the run

things happened in that show to mess the story line up, since the show held a timeline

many shows dont hold a time line, and it wouldnt matter a bit either way

if i knew this for a fact, i would make the story line correct, whichever way the eps fell

Syndication-order airing is not always the same as the production #. Sometimes it is, sometimes it's totally random as discussed recently here: http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=185454

So unless you are certain that the syndication order is the same as the production order, I would avoid putting the shows in that order. Otherwise, it's just a matter of choice. People tend to put shows in broadcast order, I don't think I've ever seen a set done in production order set, but wouldn't consider it improper to do so.

I would not go with either. I would watch them and listen/watch for little continuity bits and put them on continutity order.

Most shows are aired out of the order they take place and are sometimes filmed out of order as well.

When I transfered some of my series to DVD I had to listen/watch and put them in the continutity order which I found did not match air date OR production order.

I had to do that for these series and most likely more that I can't remember:

Production order often makes no sense---- as some shows FILM an episode where a character DIES before other ones where he is still alive---- or sometimes a new character joins the cast--- and they film 5 other eps BEFORE they film the one where he is introduced---- i prefer aired order as it usually makes more sense that way

I'm doing the Rhoda set in Production Order as the storyline flows better that way....

What I Like About You is another-Season 1 needs to be in Production Order or "Holly's First Job" will air AFTER she's been working....

It depends on the show and how much time you want to spend! If you know a lot about the show, you will know what is best!

I think something like that depends on the show. If there's no continuity and no lingering subplots, then aired order is fine.

However, season seven of Happy Days aired a show out of production order, so that it took place at the old Arnolds. This aired after the episodes in which the old Arnolds burned down and a new Arnolds was built in its place. In this case, I would rather they be shown in production order.

And during the show's final season, the show went on hiatus before the series finale that spring, which meant that some unaired episodes were shown after the finale during the summer of 1984. In this case, I would go for production order as well, because it would seem silly to have shows taking place after the final episode, during which Joanie and Chachi married. Hey, look - they're not married again!!:D

I'd say production every time. I recently did a Teen Angel set, and not one of them aired in order.

If I had just made them up in aired order, then the series finale would have the second episode on the disc.

Also, if you make up a set in aired order, you often end up watching episodes with characters that have not yet been introduced.

I made a Happy Days set and went strictly by aired order despite the out-of-order airings you mentioned. Even though there are continuity issues, I'd still rather have the episodes be in the order in which they aired.
