As far as I know they were never married in real life. I think he just had a hard time with it because he knew her so well, he really admired her and was going to miss her. Sherman seems to be a really sweet and down-to-earth man, so his reaction wasn't too surprising to me.

no they werent married in real life...but the media has been keeping George and Weezy on the airwaves for over thirty years....so in a way it was like a marriage....

let's face it...how many tv couples do you see still together years after the show ended on different shows and commercial....need i say more.

I am glad to hear that they were close, I often wondered if they were close friends. Does anyone know if he made any comments after her death? I never read anything about his comments, I had read comments that Marla, Norman Lear, and her manager had made, as well as Ralph the doorman. But I would love to hear what Sherman had to say

I'm pretty sure that Sherman Hemsley was never married to anyone and he had no kids.

He was many years younger than she. But working for 12+ years with her he grew close to her. It was sad tv son michael died young and Sherman was only in his 70's. Isabell lived age mid 80's

I commend him for not getting married and having kids if he didn't want them. Personally, I think there are a lot of people in this world who get married and have kids and don't want them and make their families, and themselves, miserable. Marriage isn't for everyone, but society forces us into that box.

I have a aunt who is 53 and not married and no kids so I guess she is gay too since she is with a man

Plus it was already stated that he was living with a Puerto Rican woman
