Hoping that some of the folks here that collect sports stuff will want to do some NFL trading.

I am just getting into this and catalogued my very humble dvd collection this weekend. I recorded almost all of it myself (have only done 3 trades for sports stuff in the last 15 years).

Especially want Miami Dolphins stuff - they suck so badly this year and I would like to watch something positive from better days. Griese / Csonka days in particular.

Other stuff is of interest too though, not just Dolphins. Very interested in NFL’s Greatest Games, Game of the Week and other NFL Films videos.

i broke out the 94 rose bowl and watched the underdog badgers put the smackdown on ucla

A lot of sports boards are private, that's why you can't find them with a search. I belong to a very good one as do some other members from here. You will need a reference to get in - I think I can vouch for you ;) Check your PM in a few minutes

Give Nick Saban 2 more years and he will get the Dolphins back to the Super Bowl. Look what he walked into and ended last year on a nice winning streak. He's too good of a coach and he pays so much attention to detail to fail.

I did a few sports trades during the Summer, I got them for me, but also my family because I thought they would get a kick out of seing them. For me I didn't like it as much as I do TV trading because I don't know many of the players and so on. BTW, the AFC Chapionship I am sending you my Uncle went the game and I showed it to him and he remembered so much about it and he hadn't seen it in 30 years. For him it brought back a lot of memories, but for me it was just another game.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!, CBS games in the 70's. I hate them, I gave away all my NFL games on CBS from the 70's EXCEPT for Miracle of The Meadowlands.

Some were more exciting than others, I didn't really learn all there names so I can't tell you which ones I think are less exciting than the others. They all knew what they were talking about, but they seemed to be talking to each other more than talking about the actual games.

Summerall did color in the early 70's (1970 in fact)

he did play by play as early as '74 and in fact did the Championship game from '74 and '76 before becoming CBS' lead play by play guy in 1978.

Criqui is one of the voice's I identify the NFL with from the 80's, a fixture on NBC broadcasts.

GF, I'm pretty sure Gowdy did the '75 AFC Championship game (I have that game in excellent condition myself) He was one of the most accomplished play by play guys of that era who's talents crossed over to many sports - World Series, Final Four's, The NFL, college football, the olympics.
He truly was one of the legends of broadcasting. He passed away last year

curt gowdy could call a tiddly wink match and make it sound great

I remember Gowdy from American Sportsman and of course the 72 Olympics at Munich. His call during the Israeli massacre is one of the memorable in all sports. Staring at the camera and uttering "their gone, their all gone". Great voice, never tried to take over. This was the day of the true announcer, not a ex jock looking to make a buck. Way back when in football they had true announcers. Van Patrick in Detroit, Harry Wismer, who became owner of the titans before they changed their name to N.Y. Jets. The Giants had Marty Glickman and him I could have lived without.

Quick story on Summerall. Many moons ago I find myself in a elevator with him, about 1975 and I thank him for giving me one of my two favorite sport moments. One Thompson's homer against the Dodgers and I tell him "I don't know if you rmember on that snowy winter day in Cleveland when we needed a win to make the playoffs, no superbowl then and with seconds remaining, the markers obliterated, you kicked what is called a 50 yard field to give us the game. Snow and wind and you put it through the uprights" He looked at me as I struck up the conversation, smiled and said "I remember it too. I still see the kick. In those days only road games were televised as home games were blacked out till the sell out rule took effect. Everyone heard much radio.
Glickman drove me crazy on radio. "Connerly hands off to Webster, who slashes of left tackle, escapes so and so and moves forward and is finally dragged down" Then he said he picked up 2 yards, figured at least 7 the way he described it.

Sports question. Does anyone remember what happened on November 8, 1970? .....I do....I was 10 years old and at the Saints vs Lions game at Tulane Stadium with my brothers and dad. The Lions had just scored a TD to take the lead with about 30 seconds left in regulation. About half of the crowd began to leave (including me). As we are walking back to the car, there is a loud roar coming from inside the stadium...what's going on?...a man on the street corner is trying to listen on his transistor radio (Gilligan Fanatic..look that up on Smithsonian's website, along with ice boxes)...and the announcer is being drowned out from the noise...well, we get back to the car and we learn that Tom Dempsey kicked a 63 yard field goal to win the game...Holy Moses!!...and I missed it..crap!. He broke a long-standing record. Since then, I believe he has been tied. Tom Dempsey still lives here. He coaches football at a local playgorund and runs a business. I run into him on occasion and he never tires of hearing all of the "This is where I was" stories that fans tell him..at least he doesn't run you away. He's always polite. He is a grandpa now.

I'm not sure, but a local TV station used to play "The kick" annually. I know I recorded it, but I don't know where it might be.

Rugby is the closest thing we have to American Football, not sure what the difference between the two is, to my unknowing eyes they seem like the same sport, only in rugby you don't have pads or helmut :crazy:

In saying that, we have 1 American football team called the Scottish Claymores, not sure if they ever play in the US, or if they're any good, but I think they've got a pretty big fan base over here.

you have the Premiership to follow and I must say after having the priviledge of catching a triple header every Saturday morning on the tube for the past three years my appreciation for English Football has gone up tremendously. It's no surprise that I root for jolly 'ol England at every major tournament.
I still think Rooney should have beat the crap out of Ronaldo for what he pulled at the World Cup this summer

I love the passion of your fans, (especially "The Hooligans" :D, I fancy myself an honorary member;) ), I love the way the sport is covered in your country, your stadiums are just as impressive as the one's over here and, you have most of the greatest players in the world playing in that league ... everything about that Premiership is Big Time Sports.

The only thing you need is a salary cap. Man U makes George Steinbrenner and the New York Yankees look cheap.:lol:

I used to watch the British House of Commons on CSPAN, and I found that very entertaining....the closest thing on TV here would be the Jerry Springer Show :lol: I've watched rugby, and to me, it's as foreign as American football is to most Brits..or Scots...what is it called when the ball is on the ground and players from both teams are huddled together trying to push each other in the opposite direction? (at least that's what it looked like they were trying to do).

I've got say that caught me off guard, it's rare to find someone from your end with a good knowledge of UK football.

Yeah, we are passionate about it over here, and we have some great teams, but I think that for World class, you've got to look further afield, Juventus, Real Madrid, etc...for example. Now those are World Class teams.

A salary cap is definitely in order, it seems it's now more about business than the actual sport. I'd have to win the lottery before I could match the change in Rooney's back pocket.

I'm glad you take such an interest in the World Cup, but your preaching to the wrong chior with the England support, have you ever seen braveheart? :lol:

Na, just kiddin' it's not that bad, but there is definitely a long standing healthy rivalry between my Country (Scotland) and England when it comes to the World Cup. Almost to the point that we would both rather see the other team win. :argue:

Sports question. Does anyone remember what happened on November 8, 1970? .....I do....I was 10 years old and at the Saints vs Lions game at Tulane Stadium with my brothers and dad. The Lions had just scored a TD to take the lead with about 30 seconds left in regulation. About half of the crowd began to leave (including me). As we are walking back to the car, there is a loud roar coming from inside the stadium...what's going on?...a man on the street corner is trying to listen on his transistor radio (Gilligan Fanatic..look that up on Smithsonian's website, along with ice boxes)...and the announcer is being drowned out from the noise...well, we get back to the car and we learn that Tom Dempsey kicked a 63 yard field goal to win the game...Holy Moses!!...and I missed it..crap!. He broke a long-standing record. Since then, I believe he has been tied. Tom Dempsey still lives here. He coaches football at a local playgorund and runs a business. I run into him on occasion and he never tires of hearing all of the "This is where I was" stories that fans tell him..at least he doesn't run you away. He's always polite. He is a grandpa now.

i saw a replay of the dempsey kick last night on the nfl network

it should have been scored as a 62 yard kick

it was between 62 and 63 and by rules its called the lesser number

the kick on sunday by the chiefs guy could have been another 5 yards longer

In the real old days, drop kicking was the fad. The quarterback dropped back and drop kicked the ball. Jim Thorpe, possibly the finest athlete that ever performed, was reputed to have drop kicked a ball 70 yards through the uprights. No records were kept, so who knows. This was during his tenure at Carlisle college. As kids we would practice drop kicking and it was hard.

He was drafted to be both placekicker and punter. He often missed wide in the kicking game and he could punt the ball and hit the top of the Superdome (he did this in pregame warmups), but most of his punts were very high but way too short during the game. There used to be a running joke that he tried to commit suicide, but the bullet went wide to the right. He was convicted of securites fraud in 1999 and was released from Federal prison in 2005. Just one of many Saints No. 1 picks that turned out to be a bust.

I shouldn't even be talking about this here but when I was young back in 56, my father got tickets for the Bears-Giant game at the old Polo grounds. Tickets were real hard to come by. Anyway the Giants led 14-7 with only seconds remaining and Blanda throws a "hail Mary" pass towards the end zone. The Bears were led by a split end by the name of Harlan Hill, like a 145th round draft pick out of Florence state teachers college of Alabama, Turned into one of the greatest ends. Anyway, Hill goes horiental in the endzone, reaching out with just his left hand and I still don't know but clutches the ball and with the point after has the game end in a tie. The fans stand stunned and then give a standing ovation to the greatest catch I ever saw. Wish I had a tape of that game.
