View Full Version : Actors who are talented in Drama & Comedy?
Janice 10-15-2006, 01:53 PM Who do you think is VERY talented in both drama and comedy?
Bill Murray - He can make me laugh or make me cry.
Ted Danson - The Onion Field, Body Heat, Something About Amelia, etc. Danson handles drama and comedy equally well. Some episodes on Cheers and Becker were emotional and showed his acting range.
John Ritter - One of the most underrated dramatic actors, in my opinion. He was terrific in Sling Blade.
Jennifer Aniston - From Friends to romantic comedies...to dramatic roles, she's versatile.
Number 9 Dream 10-15-2006, 02:36 PM John Ritter - One of the most underrated dramatic actors, in my opinion. He was terrific in Sling Blade.
I agree :) John is totally underrated, which is a shame since he was so talented.
I also think Jim Carrey is excellent at both comedy and drama. I was blown away by his performances in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Man on the Moon, and the Truman Show. I actually like his dramatic acting better.
Janice 10-15-2006, 05:45 PM I also think Jim Carrey is excellent at both comedy and drama.
That's a great choice. Carrey is fantastic at both comedy and drama.
There's Robin Williams, Jack Lemmon, Whoopi Goldberg, Jackie Gleason.
Jaqui-Michel 10-15-2006, 10:53 PM Hugh Laurie - excellent in House but very funny in BlackAdder, Jeeves and Wooster, and numerous appearances with comic partner Stephen Fry.
Ireneparalegal 10-15-2006, 11:29 PM The Onion Field. Excellent Movie. The first time I seen Ted Danson's work. To me, it was shocking seeing him do a funny character (Sam) after doing his dramatic work in the Onion Field. A movie I highly reccommend.
Woody Harrelson - the Larry Flynt movie (drama)
JO jr 10-16-2006, 12:07 AM NANCY MCKEON. GREAT COMEDIAN ON FACTS, AND IF YOU HAVE SEEN HER IN THE MOVIE, "THE TRACY THURMAN STORY", THAT'S ALL I'LL HAVE TO SAY, AND YOU KNOW SHE'S A WONDERFUL DRAMATIC ACTRESS.
IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THIS TRUE STORY, AND IF YOU CAN STOMACH IT, PLEASE WATCH IT! IT IS A VERY POWERFUL MOVIE ABOUT SPOUSAL ABUSE, AND THE IDIOT POLICE FORCE WHO VERTUALLY DID NOTHING! IT WILL PUT YOU THROUGH A TURMOIL OF EMOTION, TRUST ME. ANYONE WHO HAS SEEN THIS MOVIE WILL BACK ME UP, I'M SURE.
IN FACT, IF YOU'VE HEARD OF "TRACY'S LAW", IT'S DUE TO THIS COURAGEOUS WOMAN!

Karen* 10-16-2006, 02:11 AM Rachel McAdams. She's so poised to become the next Julia Roberts. There hasn't been a movie from her that I haven't liked! She's done really well in all of them and she's proved that she can play any role. From her conniving and snotty Regina George in Mean Girls, to her sweet and heartwrenching Allie Hamilton in The Notebook, to her terrified yet courageous Lisa Reissert in Red Eye, she can do it all. She's simply amazing. :)
LucyCompanyPhan 10-16-2006, 03:02 AM Jim Carrey without a doubt is the best comedian and dramatic actor probably that can do both fantasticly.
Reese Witherspoon

CheersChild4life 10-16-2006, 05:22 PM Steve Martin, we all know his comedic side from those countless movies, but he was wonderful in A Simple Twist of Fate.

That's a great example. I really enjoyed him in his recent movie, Shopgirl. He wrote it too.

I agree, she is a very underrated actress. She was absolutely wonderful in Friends With Money, The Good Girl, Derailed, and Rock Star.
Ireneparalegal 10-18-2006, 10:57 AM I seen Woody Harrelson in another dramatic movie. NORTH COUNTRY with Charlize Theron. Last night was the first time I seen the movie, I didn't even know he was in it and BAM! his portrayal as an attorney was awesome!

Agreed...he was also good in Indecent Proposal.
Ireneparalegal 10-18-2006, 11:04 AM Agreed...he was also good in Indecent Proposal.
Ooo yeah, wasn't he? That was such a good role for him to take. I never see his Cheers character "Woody" when I see him doing dramatic stuff.
That's how you know when an actor/actress is great. You see them outside of their character.
dragster58 10-18-2006, 11:38 AM Robin Williams.......the perfect combo.....a quid above all the rest!!
