Here's a question for discussion. Could the early morning shows survive without a female co-host? My opinion no because they add a soft touch to the show but unfortunately back in the day they did not have a strong role in the show like it is now. Thanks to Barbara Walters she paved the way for females on those shows to be officially the co-host not the girl on the show. Then Joan Lunden put motherhood and working woman on the screen to show us that it can be done. Katie Couric made Today and gave us something to look forward to.

Hey I hear you on that one. Except I did not like the way females in the past was treated on those morning shows. They were served as lamps or the silent partner with little to do. I am glad that Joan Lunden spoke up and became official co-host of GMA after being unofficial co-host for six years and she made the show not David Hartman. Jane Pauley was great as co-host especially putting up with Bryant Gumbel. Katie Couric changed the female co-host position to another level.
