If for example, someone posted a want add or a thread saying that he/she need some dvd sets. Then you replied that you have that set he/she need,s but you haven't traded with his/her. Are you, who's the one who responded to the thread/want add, the one who will send the sets first, or he/she who posted the want add should send to you first? Just a though though...

Everyone is different, BUT most of the time, it works like this

1. if u know and trust the person--- both send at same time
2. if one party is not well known and the other is an established trader, the newer person sends first
3. some people will Never send first and you have to abide by that or go elsewhere

4. me for instance, if i know u we can send same time---- if i dont know u, u send first--- 100%, no ifs ands or butts

I think that since you responded to their thread then You should send 1st.
But I also feel that if you both have been on the board for awhile then you should send at the same time.

For Example... Let's say that Loren and Lamont have never traded with each other, but they have both been on the board for awhile. I would think that they would have no problem sending at the same time.

(Or, I could be wrong)

well it just all depends, there are a lot of traders here i know and trust
and some i know and DON'T trust, ha ha

it just depends, but with newer members of this board, or those ive never dealt with before, i insist they send first, and i have a RULES OF TRADING page which i ask them to read first

For me

If someone contacts me- and ive traded with them- I just let them know when it will be ready and try to aim for the same time, usually if I am behind or ahead a few days its not a big deal.

If I am contacted by someone whom I have never traded, but have a good reputation, I usually hold to the same rules

If I don't know the person, they are under 3 months, have little or no feedback I request they send first.

And if I see someone, under 3 months, with little or no feedback, and I have what they are looking for, even if I write them, I request they send half the trade first-
I consider it fair, given the involvement I have had, and the experience I have undergone- and as much as I dont agree veteran traders should be given more consideration, I do think they have earned trust.

Just my humble opinion

my rule of thumb is

if i dont know them, they need to send first

98% of the time they are the ones contacting me, i hardly ever make -first contact

if they been around for a while, it doesnt mean they are --to my definition--trustworthy

there are long term users and even moderators who are on my --forget it-- list already

length of posting and number of posts, and even rank of moderator, doesnt mean they are a good risk

in the case of pupil, the other user is probably somewhat new as well

thats a both ship at the same time, type of deal, and do a small one to test the waters first

i keep a personal naughty and nice list, from my personal experiences and also i add in info from people i trust,

i had a huge number opf discs stolen from me when i first started, that number is down 99% as a result of preventitive measures

yes i miss out on some items, but im not supporting the scammer nation either

IMO, I've always thought most traders' rule of thumb was he who initiates sends first. SO...if you've responded to someone's inquiry, they would send first, since they initiated the trade by posting an ISO/WANTED.

Having said that, if I've traded with someone several times before OR I know they have a very good rep from the board, I don't mind sending at the same time, if they initiated the trade.
