Set-Up:

Meet Christie Waters, today is her birthday, her 38th birthday nonetheless... Notice anything odd about this party? yes, that's right, Christie is crying her eyes out... at 38 years old she has just realized that her life is a total mess... Her boyfriend Josh who she has lived with since she was 25 has decided that today is the day to tell her that he is in fact gay and that since 2003 he has been in a relationship with their other roomate Lance... Oh and Christie was just fired today from her latest job as a waitress at a local bar which has been sold and is being turned into a Sunshine Tanning Center... She hasn't had a real relationship since 1998 when she accidently burnt down her boyfriend Markus's house, after accidently knocking his Hanukha Menorah into her Christmas Tree, and running scared... Christie thinks that this is the worst day of her life, well she's about to find out that in fact things are going to get worse, a lot worse... Her overbearing and rather well, let's say completley self-absorbed, shallow and prejudice mother Eva is about to drop a huge bombshell on Christie... She is moving to Ohio to be near her daughter.... oh and that she's divorced her father and is living with an eccentrict, deaf milloneer who has offerred to make her a beauty pagent superstar at the age of 62... Oh and her new job as the production assistant (read gopher) at a local morning tv talk show is also going to be hell... her boss is none other than her former boyfriend, Markus Bluth, who produces the show... and the host? his sister Judith, whose dog, Fluffy died in the blaze when Christie failed to return to the house to save him... they are not happy to see Christie and won't make it easy for her... Oh and things get even more complicated as Christie finds herself falling for her ex Markus, even as she meets his Wife, the endlessly sweet and very niave Rain-Forresst Rivers, a 35 year old who has spent most of her life living on a hippie commune with her parents, notorious drug dealers who recently died in a drug bust.. She met Markus when the show he produces did a story on her parents... they have now been married for over a year.....

Lorna Waters: Christie's self-absorbed, shallow and prejudice mother who at 62 has divocred her husband and moved in with a deaf milloneer who wants to make her a star of elderly beauty pagents...

Josh Larkin: Christie's long-time roomate and supposed boyfriend who has decided to tell Christie today on her 30th birthday that he is in fact gay and has been having a relationship with Lance their other roomate since 2003. They are also long-time friends having grown up together in Ohio and moved out to L.A. together...

Judy Bluth-Harper: The host of the morning show where Christie Works... Markus's sister. her dog Fluffy was killed in the fire Christie caused...

Lance Walker: Josh's boyfriend and their roomate... an aspiring beautician who isn't very good and has been failing classes at LA Beauty School for the last 2 years...

Rain-Forresst Rivers: Markus's niave, sweet wife, who grew up on a hippie commune with her parents who were notorious drug dealers.

Richy Wilder: Lorna's boyfriend....
