something i thought of while watching Threes company last episode what could made threes crowd work or keep threes company going or so have Jack Vicky and her father move in2 the same Apartment building and furley remain as his landlord and Larry as the downstairs neighbor i think that would been great and stil run the restaurant what u all think

I honestly don't think that would have worked. I any spin-off there has to be an element of change and I think people were still reeling from the half-ass finale. The apt. building would never be the same without the girls there.

With all due respect, I don't think this would've worked at all, simply because the problem wasn't with the characters Janet & Terri but with the overall concept of Three's Company. The producers attest that they were running out of ideas and were recycling old ideas and didn't think they could do a 9th Season because of that.

What you suggested would ultimately lead to rehash of the old formula. I mean, if Furley and Larry are still around in their original functions, then Vicky and Mr. Bradford are merely a substitute for Janet & Terri/Chrissy/Cindy. Mr. Bradford would be the foil for his relationship with Vicky, much like Janet was the foil for Jack with Chrissy/Terri. And Vicky is merely a Chrissy/Terri type, with Janet's brains, only the difference with Vicky is that she's willing to give herself to Jack and he attains her. Nothing else would be any different...

Had the show taken this approach, it'd be as if they were saying that Janet & Terri were the problem, and they clearly weren't. The whole format had to be redone and Janet & Terri were just one of the casualties. If anything, their exclusion from the show (along with everything else) may have been what led to the demise of Three's a Crowd in hindsight. Janet & Terri didn't have to be regulars in the show, but they could've had a part as frequent guest-stars. If Larry was worthy of guest-starring, surely Janet & Terri were as well (if Terri wasn't in Hawaii of course!), not to mention Mr. Furley, Cindy and the Ropers.

But the producers clearly only valued John. As important as he was (and I'm not debating that), his relationships with his other 'friends' was just as vital. You take away Jack's relationships and you take away his soul. Three's a Crowd proves that unfortunately...

i see what u mean but hey it was just a idea which never hurts to hear u know u right it wouldnt been the same but i think it would been cool if furley larry or janet stop by the restaurant once while to see jack get better theme song drop the hawallian cook.threes crowd would been better or better not visit by the ropers.

I know, and I'm glad you shared your idea. It's always fun to speculate about 'what could've been'. I just needed to explain why I think your suggestion wouldn't have worked. I could be wrong though, since it's only my opinion. Again, it's fun to speculate...

u right it wouldnt been the same but i think it would been cool if furley larry or janet stop by the restaurant once while to see jack get better theme song drop the hawallian cook.threes crowd would been better or better not visit by the ropers.

I agree, and by the time Three's a Crowd was airing, fans had pretty much forgotten about the Ropers, or at least didn't expect to see them appear, but it still would've been nice. Who knows, perhaps some of these guest-appearances would've occurred had the show lasted longer.

If Three's a Crowd had lasted 4 or 5 seasons, Jack not having any contact with Larry or Janet would've been unnatural and wouldn't have felt right. It wouldn't have had to happen all of the time, but once or twice would've been plausible. Mr. Furley used to help out Jack at the restaurant while the show was still Three's Company. Why couldn't that have continued to happen when the show changed to Three's a Crowd? Mr. Furley still lived the same distance away and would surely have come by to visit or to bring by a date. The same with Larry or Janet with her husband Philip. Why the producers failed to see this is beyond me. Talk about stupid...

The gang from Cheers guest-starred on Frasier frequently as a group as well as separately. It's just how things happen in real life. Very rarely do we close out people who are that close to us simply because of a move or new relationship. Even if friendships slow down, eventually there is contact.

If Jack and Janet and all the other characters had been real people, some interaction between some of them would've occurred while Jack lived with Vicky. And had it been so, we'd be hearing about season sets of Three's a Crowd being released after Season 8 of Three's Company.

Thanks for the thought dude... :)
