View Full Version : Benson's Crock of an October Surprise
RWCTV 10-01-2006, 02:53 AM For those who may be searching for Benson episodes, TVLAND is really screwing us over. With the return of that annoying Friday Movie Show night, the encore of the movie shown at 8:00, will re-run and overlap the Benson episodes. But this is not the end of it. TVLAND will re-show their Friday night movie and count it as if they did show all 7 episodes on Friday night, but they will be doing it this way. Looking on Zap2it.com, it works like this…
Tuesday 4 episodes of Benson.
Friday night/Sat. Morning—1 episode of Benson
So, five times a week you might be thinking. What’s the big deal then?
This is the big deal for devoted fans of Benson for this reason.
Let’s take this coming Tuesday for example. TVLAND will air Parade Rest, The Hat in the Ring, and both parts of Reel Murder. On Friday, they will show And the Winner Is.—the seventh and last episode as if the Friday night movie never aired. That means, The Buck Stops Here, Pardon Me, High Society, Three on a Mismatch, and Friends and Enemies (the heated first part of the final episode) will all be skipped because of the movie.
The following week, the series cycle starts all over again. This is how it works.
Tuesday: The Pilot, Trust Me, The President’s Double, and Benson in Love.
Then Friday, following an encore of the movie shown, they will air Ghost Story, which would be the seventh episode following Benson in Love. That means that Conflict of Interest, The Layoff, Snowbound, Jessica, Don’t Quote Me, and War Stories will all be skipped during this cycle. And thus the cycle will continue this way for however long they feel like. What we all need to do is convince TVLAND that pulling or moving the encore of the movie shown to the next day will infuriate less people. After all, most people work on Tuesdays, when the show is scheduled to air (11am to 1pm in my area), and are in bed, or out at 2:30 am (in my area) on Friday nights.
There is no doubt in my mind that TVLAND thinks that picking up Benson was a big mistake, and that now since (someone here said anyway) they have the rights to the show until 2008, or whenever, they will consider it as a write-off and use it as mere filler for the slots that they know nobody watches.
robyrob 10-01-2006, 12:31 PM i dont think that TVLand gives a CRAP about what its viewers think, or whether it pisses off ALL of its viewersin the process of all these changes/strange scheduling.
all they care about is some magical number that has something to do with ratings; they wont ever tell anyone what those numbers are - its always "not good enough", "did worse than expected", or "disapointed"
BensonFan 10-01-2006, 01:08 PM It IS a load of crap. They should not been skipping Benson episodes. If they insist on showing movies that a person can see on actual MOVIE channels (gee, there's a novel concept) or purchase on DVD without sitting through an hour of annoying commercials, then they should just go to the next Benson episode in order on Friday from where they left off on Tuesday. So, instead of jumping to "Ghost Story" on the 13th, we should be seeing "Conflict of Interest".
Making matters worse is these movie choices. "Fatal Attraction"?? Are you friggin kidding me?? On a station that's been hell-bent on trying to push off all these family values and the "family table", this is an absolute JOKE. I started a petition to end Friday night movies in the "Programming Suggestions" board on their website; I suggest you guys go and sign it. Of everyone who has posted on this matter there, I think I saw maybe 1 person who actually liked the idea of Friday night movies. It's really unbelieveable they're still showing them. If they thought Benson's ratings weren't so hot, wait till they get the ratings for these movies which should really be tanking big time.
Pavan 10-01-2006, 03:22 PM If all goes planned, Benson fans will love something that TV Land has planned for late November. I couldn't believe when I saw this; I'll announce it as soon as it is official. Hopefully they go through with this.

A Benson Thanksgiving!!
Benson non-stop from Thanksgiving Day all the way until Sunday!!
Sounds good to me. :D
Pavan 10-01-2006, 05:37 PM Actually this event is after Thanksgiving Weekend. That's all I'll say for now.
robyrob 10-01-2006, 08:15 PM i would honestly just be happy if they'd show about 7 to 10 episodes a week, IN ORDER, and at a REGULARLY SCHEDULED TIME.
I'm seriously not going to get excited over any announcement that TVLand has - everytime they say they are going to do something good, they change their minds like a week later... pissed:

Well I do know that Robert Guillaume's birthday is Nov 30. Maybe it'll be a Robert Guillaume celebration weekend. The man deserves it; he's been through a lot. :)

Thanks for signing it....and yes, I use a different name over there. ;)
TVJunkie101 10-02-2006, 08:06 AM Add me to that list of those frustrated. I was trying to tape Benson off of TV Land but their skipping of episodes and running episodes off the clock has frustrated me so much I've stopped even trying.
If TV Land airs a Benson weekend marathon, hopefully they air them in order so I can at least try to tape them.
BensonFan 10-02-2006, 10:00 AM Making matters worse is that I could have sworn I read somewhere that TV Land is planning on showing these Friday night movies through November also.
Wonderful.
Scoobiedoo30 10-02-2006, 03:10 PM I am looking forward to see whatis going to Happening in November with Benson.

I agree. And do you know how these people determine the ratings numbers?
At least with the Nielsen research center, they pick a house at random, call them and ask them if they want to participate by writing down what they watch within the course of a week. You send your viewing habits to the research center where they process them for the statistics that TV networks get. In the late 90's, I did this. Since I watched a lot of classic TV shows, I wrote them down, and they were on for quite a while after that. It was my chance to "save" shows like One Day at a Time, Too Close for Comfort, Webster, and so on. They then ask you what shows you would like to see in the future? I said, Benson, Perfect Strangers, and others. Of course Benson came on three years after that on the Screen Gems Network.
But anyway, the people who are filling out these pads, I'm convinced, do not watch Benson reruns on TVLAND. They're either asleep or at work.

The only way I would accept TVLAND's Friday night movies is if they were reunion specials/movies of classic TV shows. Regular movies (aired on TBS thousands of times) seems out of place to me when it comes to TVLAND.
TVLAND'S uniqueness at the beginning was based on its reputation for bringing hard to find shows back to the public. Their programming was exclusive. Now, it's as if they are reaching a certain level of mediocrity. For example most of the shows on their line-up can be found on other stations (as well as Nick At Nite). I mean, come on, Roseanne is on TVLAND, ME-TV, Oxygen, DVD, and probably more that I can't think of at the moment. Benson is a show that is EXCLUSIVELY on TVLAND, which means that, on the network scale, NOBODY ELSE HAS IT.
TVLAND needs to go back to its roots and stop trying to be like every other network. With hundreds of networks out there, the TV industry should be competitive, doing everything that it can to attract classic TV nerds like us.

And now that I look again....December too? Are these people completely off their rocker??
Scoobiedoo30 10-03-2006, 12:40 PM Yes The TV Land Friday Night Movies will be on The The TV Land Schedule until December of 2006

Bad idea, TV Land. puke:
Scoobiedoo30 10-03-2006, 03:09 PM that would be fine if TV Land would show Classic Reunion/Movie's
BensonFan 10-09-2006, 02:52 PM If all goes planned, Benson fans will love something that TV Land has planned for late November. I couldn't believe when I saw this; I'll announce it as soon as it is official. Hopefully they go through with this.
So.....any update? Can we keep our hopes up or have they scrapped whatever idea this is already?
Pavan 10-09-2006, 03:26 PM It is still on. I see it listed still. Not announced yet, so I can't spill yet.
