Is he gonna be on there for the whole season or just a few episodes?

He's an official member of the cast now. TPTB at ER actually wanted him to join last season but he was still under contract at ABC because of a series he was doing for them..remember "Jake in Progress"? That is why he only guessed starred for a couple episodes last season. When "Jake" was officially cancelled, he was finally able to join ER as a regular.

Awesome I thought so when I didnt see his name under guest's and original cast just didnt want to give my hopes up. So we at least get to see him every Thursday. I watched some of it but didnt watch it all last week.

Make sure you watch it this week. From last week's previews it looks like John is going to be in it alot.

What is John's role on ER? Is he playing one of the surgeons or one of the patients or one of the staff in the Emergency Room (receptionist, nurse, or whatever) or one of the patients families or friends?

I've seen ER maybe about one or two times in the past. I don't know if it's one of the episodes with John in it last year when I saw ER.

I think he is going to be a Doctor.

He was an EMT on the 2 guest spots last season and he was for most of last week's show. However, toward the end of last week's show, we learn that he has worked his last EMT shift and is now an intern at county.

Must say this to all..if you're not watching ER, you are missing some great scenes from John. I wasn't sure if I was going to like his character or if I could get used to John playing a dramatic role but tonight I am totally loving Gates and John is fantastic! Here's to John hopefully staying on ER for a long time to come.

I saw it I thought it was fun to watch him arguing with that one guy. I can't wait for Thursdays show to watch it. I never watched ER but will now because John is on it. :)
