Being in bed a lot, I have waaaay too much time to watch television. I noticed this week that the TCM channel (Turner Classic Movies) have been playing THE DICK CAVETT SHOW with NO COMMERCIALS. I seen Dick Cavett interview Alfred Hitchcock. It was a 90 minute interview. Here is a link for those interested:http://www.turnerinfo.com/newsitem.aspx?P=TCM&CID01=7693b0fa-c8f3-4d36-bff5-78a04476ea14

...very astute of Cavett to save those videotapes, 'irene', because they're a "time capsule" of those celebrities (and sometimes, their only "full" apperance on a talk show)- Dick believed people had something to talk about BEFORE they "plugged" their latest project [or not], and that's why he devoted 90 minutes to those people he thought deserved a chance to "speak" for themselves. Only Merv Griffin and Joe Franklin could match him in that "one-on-one for 90" format. Hitchcock is droll, as always; he didn't really need someone like James Allardice to write his material [as he did for Hitch's anthology series], he was a master of conversation as well as film. I am curious to see Groucho's appearance, for he was a good friend of Dick's, and he was approaching that period before his age and senility overtook him.

I couldn't put it any better. So well put. Seeing the celebs being interviewed and actually TALKING abt different aspects of themselves and not "pitching" some project is what I like and miss abt old talk shows.
My fave segment on Dick Cavett is of course when he had John Lennon on there.
ANYONE WHO MAY HAVE THAT ON DVD, LET ME KNOW PLEASE!!!!!
