NBC Gets Its (Other) Game On
'1 vs. 100' heads to Fridays, 'Jordan' held back

September 27, 2006

LOS ANGELES -- NBC has made its first scheduling change of the season -- one that doesn't involve a show currently on the air.

The network announced Wednesday that it will roll out a new game show, "1 vs. 100," for a five-week run on Fridays starting Oct. 13. It will debut at 9 p.m. ET, following an episode of "Deal or No Deal," then move to 8 p.m. the following week and serve as a lead-in for the season premiere of "Las Vegas."

As a result, veteran drama "Crossing Jordan" -- which was scheduled to fill the 8 p.m. Friday spot starting the 20th -- is being nudged aside for now. Its premiere date hasn't been rescheduled yet.

"This entertaining game is a proven winner from Europe that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats as the pressure builds with every question and the financial stakes grow higher," NBC Entertainment boss Kevin Reilly says. "The introduction of this new show also allows us the luxury of saving such a proven and versatile series as 'Crossing Jordan' for use later in the season."

Comedian Bob Saget ("The Aristocrats," "Full House") will host "1 vs. 100," in which one player will face off in a trivia challenge against 100 competitors. The solo player has to answer every question correctly, while hoping members of the 100-person mob answer wrong and are eliminated. If the player eliminates everyone, he or she will take home $1 million. Should the single player miss a question, the remaining players among the 100 will split the pot.

The show originated in the Netherlands and has become a hit in several countries. It was brought to these shores by Endemol USA, which also produces "Deal or No Deal."

It was really good. Questions were easy though.

I enjoyed it but also felt that the questions were rather on the easy side.

That was show was good, but most of the answers were so easy. I will be watching again since this show was so good. I saw 7 people from Deal or No Deal and Ken Jennings from Jeopardy. I enjoyed 1 vs 100!

WOW... it did better than Deal or No Deal last night!

DOND had a 7.3/13, 1 vs. 100 had a 7.8/13 and actually gained some viewers throughout the hour!

The test will be next week with no lead-in. I hope it was a better game show than Deal or No Deal. Any idiot can play that game, well its not even a game...a disgrace to game shows I think.

I hate Bob Saget so I probably won't watch 1 vs. 100.

The best game shows in recent years: Greed, Lingo and WWTBAM. I actually liked You Don't Know Jack and Game Show Marathon though, lol.

Yeah, it actually involves knowledge, but at least last night, the questions were mostly easy. Mainly Pop Culture.

If the ratings hold up, I fully expect it to be airing 3 times a week by February(unfortunately). I have lost interest in DOND because they overplayed it, I initially loved it.

This game reminds me of the bonus round from a 1977 ABC game show. If you said The Better Sex, you are correct! Let's compare.

1 faces 100/team of 6 face 30 members of the opposite sex

The contestant wins $1,000,000 if all 100 are gone/The team wins $5,000 for stumping the 30

The panel splits whatever the contestant loses/The remaining members split $500

Wonder if Bob Saget would have a show where he had 100 females vs 1 male. Then have guest hostess Lori Loughlin having a female face 100 men. Fremantle would then have a case & Mark Goodson would be turning over in his grave.

With the ratings being what they are you have to hand it to NBC for making the move to quality game shows in the tradition of that other network "FOX". NBC is desperate to the point for viewers that take away quality for a small portion of high ratings that will not last them when they can be letting quality programming grow in the night or time period in which these game shows air.

Id rather see Jennifer Love Hewitt on CBS Ghost Whisperer then the same old routine with game shows that are over played, whose with me?

No more 'Deal or No Deal' and '1 vs 100', I mean really is America that huge on someone like that Full House guy, Bob Sagat? Does anyone remember how unfunny he was on Americas Funniest Home Videos, how can anyone be watching now?

1 Vs. 100 is got $1,000,000 at stake(not $3,000,000.) folks.

Ratings are dropping fast... a 6.1/11 last night without DOND's help, 3rd place between the record-low rated World Series and Ghost Whisperer.

I bet next week 1 vs 100 does well in The Ratings
