I recently received the 3 episodes of this show that are floating around out there a couple of weeks ago and it's really bizarre.Well at least the first episode is.It had Emmett,Goober and Don Knotts unnamed character. The show wasn't that good but I'm glad I have them.Too bad there aren't more than the 3 episodes out there.I never knew this show even existed until a few months ago.

I knew it was around, but I saw your post at the trading board about looking for it and I decided I would too :D

Now if we could only find the Headmaster

WHOA, I didn't even know that this series existed! Thanks for the screencaps! I didn't like Mayberry R.F.D., so I doubt I'd like this show, either. I would love to see that episode with Don Knotts someday, though. :)

I've been delving into watching the old AGS, and reading about it on the internet... this morning, I thought about two obscure series of the 1970s the /New/ Dick Van Dyke and Andy Griffith Shows.

So I Googled, and found my way here... much more bizarre than I imagined/remembered!

Andy Sawyer, a different character, apparently, who is friends with Goober Emmett and even Barney!?! How do they explain this, since Opie and Helen are gone, and Andy is married to... Catwoman?!?

Details, please! Do they just blithely go along as if this is the same Andy, or someone different... a strange alternate universe?

I think bringing in Goober,Emmet and the unnamed Knotts character to the show was an attempt to get ratings (That first episode did get a # 12 rating in the weekly TV ratings).and the shows producers were hoping the guest appearances would also retain audience interest but the episodes that followed steadily declined in the ratings and the show only lasted 3 or 4months I think. The first episone appealed to the die hard Andy Griffith fans which were many at the time, but didn't fool them once they watched this show.

BTW.
Here is a great link for information on the show.I believe if you click the link around the Don Knotts picture, there is a trailer that will play.

Perhaps Andy Taylor was temporarily in some sort of government protection program and he was given a fake wife and kids at the time.

Thanks for the reply... it only took me eight years to get back here to find it!

Going to the site you link to for a look... if it still exists, a lot has changed since 2006!

Maybe the two Andys were identical cousins like Patty and Cathy Lane and had mutual friends in Goober, Emmett and Barney.

Greenwood could have been a neighboring town to Mayberry.

I suspect Andy Griffith might have preferred these episodes were forgotten...

Headmaster and The New Andy Griffith Show, two shows I now can barely remember. Headmaster I wouldn't mind seeing again, it wasn't that bad. The New Andy Griffith Show was an ill-concieved attempt to recapture past success, not worth viewing except maybe for nostalgia value.

I, too have just the dimmest memories of these two blink-and-they're-gone series. It must have been a blow to Andy Griffith and crew that either of these returns to television didn't turn to instant gold, possinly the fact that Mayberry RFD was still running and doing well took away the impact of his return?

I'm thinking that's why nobody has shown it, not enough episodes to make a blip on the rapid-fire daily rerun circuit.

I would show it when the Andy Griffith Show ended so it would almost be like a continuation of the Andy Griffith Show.

It was indeed so bizarre that it was this that makes it interesting. Such as, what in the world were they trying to do, a sort of rebooted sequel of the original series or something.

This is an almost 10 year old thread. How time fly's !
As far as I know,no other episodes of this show have resurfaced over the years. On TV.Com the lost episopdes descriptions come courtesy of TV Guide so I'm thinking we will never see any more.

It sure would make a nice little DVD collection, and I have a feeling it would sell well.

Nothing could ever top the original classic, that is my all time favorite show! Glad to see this though, an interesting part of TV history!
