I was reading on another site that when Queer As Folk was in the planning stages among the cast of characters were a "bear" couple and their "adopted cub". However Showtime had those characters dropped because they felt America would not accept a gay man with a lot of body hair and sporting beards.

Any truth to that?

Come to think of it, of all the gay themes touched on Queer as Folk and pretty much just about all the other TV shows with a gay character, none would fall under the term "bear". One would think at least one would.
