I remember the appearances by Jay Hammer who played Allan Willis during the 1978-1979 season of "The Jeffersons". Does anyone know why this character was introduced and why they couldn't find a better actor to play him? This guy was one of the "stiffest" actors in a sitcom I have ever seen.
Was he just used as filler during the "NO-LIONEL" years?

I actually enjoyed the character of Allan. I do not consider him a temporary replacement for Lionel at all. I believe he was put on the show because Jay Hammer is a funny actor. It's too bad that we did not see more of him after Season 5.

I didn't like him either. The episodes he were in were defintely some of my least-favorites from the earlier years.
